Yes sir the 140 Berg is quite capable. I shot a monster cow (not slow elk) last year at 497. She was quartering away a bit. I snuck it in behind the right front, it exited the left front. She took 2 steps and bit the dust!

Heck, when you sight in on a paper plate, 150 yards is a long shot. Some here check their zero every 4 to 6 years aiming at a knot on a Pine Tree!

Sounds like a 6.5-284 would fit the bill, although almost no factory ammo. Share bullets with a 6.5CM, low recoil, no downside really.

Was thinking if he’s not restricted to short action mag length just a straight .284 Winchester would be cool too.

Oh for sure. I’ve finally been in a place to get a few new-old guns this last year.

I already had a .270, .243, and a .300 win mag. Need had nothing to do with it haha, on this continent that’s more than enough for everything.

But I’m very happy to have added a .257 weatherby, an 8mm mauser, and a .358 Norma mag to my collection 😁

IMHO 7mm is the sweet spot. The big 30’s are nice but the high bc bullets tend to be heavy for caliber and more recoil. As someone mentioned the 280,280AI is very underrated. My next build is a 280AI.

Calvin, there is NOTHING cool about a 284 anything on a short action...been there, done that...never again!

Go 6/284, 25/284, and straight 284 on long actions for a more harmonious outcome. I shot the barrels out of two 6/284 and two 25/284 on various varmints.
