what about a 6 foot barrel?

I found this a little amusing this morning but fun to see what barrel length does and/or doesn't do.

Good read!
Bear in mind that a 308 is not at all overbore capacity and uses faster burn rate powders.
Something like a 264 WM would obviously be able to use more barrel length before it reached diminishing returns and an inch of barrel loss would lose a lot more than 15".
Good info though
:)

There was never a reason to think that bullets would actually slow or stop with increasing barrel length.
Yes the increases can get so small as to be lost in a chronograph resolution, but they're still increases.
He could have gone to a 500" barrel, and MV would not drop lower.

As long as there is enough pressure to overcome bore friction and air drag the bullet will keep on going, and these are very tiny resistive terms. The engraved bullet is also seeing less & less friction/drag as it travels down the bore & with pressures dropping.
There is also no reason to think a bullet would become less stabilized, as twist rate holds -regardless of velocity.

Here's a link to an article I read a few years ago about barrel length & diminishing returns or something to that effect.;)😂
