I don't just what ever I have in my hands. Latest has been a bow. I did use a 06 for whiteys because seldom could shoot 200 yds. Last rifle was a 300RUM. New rifle will be a 28N or a 338EDGE

Prior to the arrival of my 6.5-284 Norma , the 270 was my lone deer hunting round. It served me faithfully for over 20 years. Never missed a single shot with it. The 6.5-284 is just more accurate any day of the week. Took my first ever California antelope with it last year at 480 yards. I love it !!!!
I am going to have to second that! I love both the 270, which I have hunted with for 30 years, and the 6.5-284 Norma, which might be my favorite caliber of all time and nearly the perfect cartridge, if there ever was one. I shot benchrest competitions with one for several years. Playing around with a standard 284 win now that may become my new favorite!😁. As far as strictly whitetail are concerned it would be a toss up between 270, 7mm-08, and 308, with me leaning heavily toward the 270.🤔

Initial favs were 280 Rem and 7mm Rem mag both loaded with Barnes X and TTSX 140gr. New love is 338-06 on recent remarried Mod 70 Fwt. Always impressed with performance gain by simply needing up the tried and true 30-06. Getting 2800fps with 200gr in 338-06, same as 180gr in parent cartridge. Got this unique 3 x WT@ west of Eugene, OR this year. First buck with new build

Ok, let's see if I can bring this home... I, like most here, have all manner of pipe-hitters in my safe, and I can go out as far as most guys need to go for game and competition..., but! with that said; and after great thought, I'd say my downright favorite is my minty little Winchester model 1894 in .30 WCF (circa 1942) hands down. Shot my biggest Idaho Whitetail buck with it. Cheers!
