So I found this piece of 308 brass out in the middle of the woods the other day while out scouting. It looks like rifling marks all the way down the length of the brass, and the "rifling marks" are raised, I can feel them going almost to the bottom of the brass. What would cause this to happen?

Very very light scarring marks would cause sections of exposed new brass on top of old kind of varnished brass. Then sitting outdoors for a bit those exposed areas would oxidize faster.

Fired from an HK91 or clone. Their roller delayed blowback system with fluted chamber leaves those distinct fluted brass marks. Does not affect reloading ability.

Larue X-tran barrels do something similar but much finer. Both of these are 3x fired. Absolutely can't feel it though.

PTR91 or CETME, I had one and sold it because it chewed up my brass like crazy.

The HK91 and clones (PTR91, CETME) have a fluted chamber. The gas flows down these flutes to aid extraction.

That's for sure. Mine would land brass in one neat pile...about 20 feet away. (But they always extracted.). The force of the brass ejection could be considered a CQB weapon.

I had the same problem with an HK91. It would deform the brass, leave lines on it and dent it when it was extracted. I reload 308 and was not at all happy with this.
That came out of an H&K. They have a fluted chamber.
