Weatherby Vanguard

First group is the 168gr TTSX with 2 different powders, next is 5 190gr Bergers the top hole is a 200gr Cast, the low shot is a called flier that I was off on my trigger pull, last is 5 180gr Sierra Boattails. Funny how the Sierras were the only one to shoot to point of aim, I zeroed with 180gr Interbonds.

Different bullets can be inches different in POI.

Don't worry about POI until you settle down on the load.

They don't look that bad.

Questions:
What are you using for a rest?
Are you making sure that the pressure on the stock is the same every shot?

The reason I ask is that I see groups that are long and tall. Vertical stringing? How is the trigger?

Needs a better trigger, I am shooting off of sand bags front and rear, trying to make sure the contact is the same every time, but I know for the one group that I was off by 2" on the bags. I am going to stick with one bullet and load from here on out, I am deer hunting in 2 weeks, and if I can get this sorted out, I will use it, if not then my 300 WM will get the nod. I am going to shoot the Hornady Interbonds and IMR 4451, it was between them and the Sierra Boattail, both weigh in at 180 grains, I was really leaning towards the TTSX, but I need to pay some bills down before I can think about shooting them for practice. The Bergers I bought for the 300, same with the 200gr Accubonds.

What powder are you using?

As soon as the local shop gets some in, RL-17 and 4451 both are in the same burn rate neighborhood.

I just couldn't get good groups with RL 17 and 180's it seems to be a little slower than IMR 4350. It worked extremely well with bullets 200grns and heavier.

So far I have had good luck with RL 17, but I have only tried it with the 180s and 168s, haven't had good luck with the 200s, but I have only tried RL 22. I may need to try the RL 17 with the heavier bullets.

I have found 50-100 fps faster speeds with RL 17 than the more common powders and heavy bullets.
I can put three in one hole with IMR 4350 and a 178 Amax. I'm using 56.5 grains IMR 4350 @2750fps. 3.34" COAL.

So, this rifle is screaming at me for a better trigger, the "3" stage factory trigger just plain sucks. This rifle also really doesn't like having a completely copper free bore, it was still shooting good at 25 rounds down the bore, so I think I am only going to clean for carbon fouling.

What are you trying to do with this rifle, target or hunt? If its hunting 1 inch groups at 100 yards will take care of anything out of that 06.

Last 6 shots, 5 were 180gr Interbonds, and 1 Sierra BT of 180gr, the shot to the far left was shot number 4, crappy trigger coupled with loss of focus.

I bought this rifle on a whim off of gunbroker with the intent of an inexpensive "Jeep" gun, I plan on hunting with it, but I would like to find the most accurate load I can for this rifle, with a bullet that will handle anything North America can throw at us. I am going to install a Timney trigger, have tried adjusting this one, but it has some seriously gritty creep to it, I could live with it if it was just the weight, but the gritty feeling creep has to go. Will be adding a better scope as well, thinking it may end up with a Leupold 2.5-8x36 VX III.
