Weatherby Vanguard or Remington 700P??

Hi all,
While I am new to the forum, I have enjoyed reading and learning quite a bit from you guys for a while now. I currently have a Remington 700ltr in .308 and am shopping for a .300Win Mag. I like the idea of having the additional range and bullet energy past 300yds(and up to 1000 someday if not at least for fun) and that it is somewhat flatter shooting. The purpose of this new rifle will be hunting elk and possibly black bear.

The rifles:
Weatherby Vanguard S2 Deluxe in .300Win Mag....$850
Two stage trigger, 24" blued #2 contour barrel (not free floated) with high polish walnut

The wood stocked weatherby is beautiful, but I am concerned about the POI being altered by different meteorological conditions (mostly high humidity as I live in Houston). The 700p is heavy, but I would be less worried with the synthetic stock and parkerized finish.

Which of these two rifles do you think would possess more inherent accuracy and best suit me?

If that's your major concern then why buy the wood stocked one?

For similar or less money to the Deluxe you quoted you can buy a new synthetic S2 ($450-525), add a Bell & Carlson stock ($225) and be ahead of the game. Add $100 if you want a stainless rifle instead,

If you go this route or with the Remington I'd consider having the action bedded on both rifles, and I'd float the barrel on the Vanguard. So far I have had excellent success with this formula.

If you love your LTR .308...Go for the 700P .300 WM. I like the 700P rifles. The 5R Milspec rifles also are available in a 26" 1:10 twist .300 WinMag. They also have a HS stock heavy stainless barrel with 5R rifling.

Ditto.

If the budget allows I'd go stright for the 300wm Sendero or CZ 550 Ultimate Hunting Rifle in 300wm. Hard to beat the 1 MOA to 600yds guarantee they come with and it's a fantastic action and rifle.

It also comes with one of the best triggers available for any rifle since you can get them with the CZ single set trigger. You only have to shoot that trigger once to be in love with it permanently.

Thank you for the replies! I had not heard of the CZ 550 rifles, but with that 600yd MOA guarantee its an interesting option. Im surprised it only has a 23" barrel if theyre advertising it as a long range rifle. I had already ruled out the Sendero due to the fact that it didn't seem any better a gun than the 700p and cost an extra $200 or so. Also, I had read several reports of Sendero owners having issues with rust on their stainless action/barrel even when stored with a light coat of oil!!

With either of these rifles, I'll prob throw a Leupold VX-3 4.5-14 on it and am still debating a swivel Harris bipod or just the sling.

If I build a vanguard s2 with a B&C stock, I've essentially replicated a weatherby backcountry without the cerakote finish and saved around $400 that route.

Lots to think about. Any other nods towards the CZ 550 UHR??

I've shot them. They really do shoot that well. The only problem with the CZ is once you have shot the single set trigger and gotten used to it you will be ruined for life for all other triggers.
