Where are reputable builders I might purchase from? If they use a "rifle" action, then is it considered to be a firearm still? For example, you can buy a muzzleloader online without a ffl involved. Do these custom bolt actions need FFL involvement? What kind of costs might be involved? I am thinking 45 cal and smokeless powder build (I hear if you do smokeless build you can still use BH209). I do not love recoil so I do want a brake on it. Anything else to consider? Thanks!

There is a guy close to me here in NM that builds some. I have seen several at the ranges getting dialed in prior to hunting season and they all shot very well, like custom CF rifle well. Bad to the bone muzzleloaders is his store name.

Bestill Creations LLC …… built mine and I couldn't be happier.
LR Customs
Arrowhead Rifles

There are others, but IMO you'll never go wrong with either of the three I listed. They know what they're doing and compete.
Jeff from Bestill Creations just posted a video of him shooting a mile. TMK Jeff hasn't posted it on youtube as yet.

OMG...………. you don't want to know what I have invested in mine LOL
However, I took the LONG WAY AROUND, which is why I have so much invested.
Check out the sites below. Bestill only has a FB page. Jeff has a full time job and builds after his real day job is over.

This I will say………. If you want ANY custom builder to build you a rifle, CALL THEM NOW. These guys are booked way out and there's a reason for it. I know orders from Jeff (Bestill) are being taken for AFTER August of next year.
LR Customs (Levi) may have a shorter lead time, but he's hunting a ram right now.
Arrowhead Rifles (Luke) may have a shorter lead time, maybe even less.
Regardless, if you want a rifle built from one of these custom builders, I'd contact them ASAP.

Forgot, so I'll edit in...…… Check out Bestill's (Jeff) video of shooting one (1) MILE. Jeff is one of the top inline muzzleloader shooters in the country, with many match and IIRC a Nationals win at the NMLRA in Friendship, IN. I've known Jeff for a few years and shot with him. You won't find a better man, or custom builder.

If you want a custom, Look into bad to the bone muzzleloaders. I've Shot them they are top notch. The builder is a top notch guy too.

And yes it's a firearm if you use a rifle action.

You can build off a Remington ml action with no ffl you can also build off other muzzleloader actions. It all depends on what you expect it to do and how far you want to shot. Like custom rifles the sky is the limit

All the builders mentioned will do a fine job. I have/had guns built by two of them. I would also add Jeff Hankins name to the list. I have two built by him and they are very nice rifles and extremely accurate.

well the furthest we can shoot is 400 yards but id be happy with a 300 yard muzzleloader.
