if both were the same price, which would you prefer for 0-800 yd deer/elk hunting in dryer part of Montana.

if not those two, what else in the $700-$900 price point?

Leupold VX-3i LRP. I have several in 4.5-14x50 and 6.5-20x50 and have not had a single issue. The 4.5-14 is lighter over a half pound lighter than the Vortex or Meopta models mentioned.

I wouldn't put either of the scopes mentioned above on a hunting rifle. They are great scopes but too heavy for hunting purposes IMHO. Vortex RZR LHT 3-15x42 is only 18oz.

I have the Meopta in the MOA version. It is very heavy but I am happy with it, other than the center dot is a little big. I like Meopta and their customer service is great. Vortex is a good company but too many of my friends have had to send scopes back to them. Their customer service is great as well.

This is hilarious. First, I was hoping to hear more from folks who have had both in front of their eye. Not sure I have heard that.

I have good experience with the Vortex 5-25x and I really like it.

I have no experience with the Meopta, but I really like the reticle and many sing the praises of the optic.

In a long range hunting forum, I often get told I need the 46 oz optic! Today, we have the lightweight guys logged in.

I should be just under 10lbs with this optic. I don't think I'll hit more with it at 9lbs.

As mentioned above the Center dot aiming point was WAY to big on my Meopta. Was the MOA reticle. I also had to send it back for a full refund. Scope wouldn't track. Not a bash on the scope at all. Man made and sometimes things fail. Glass seemed good when I compared to a friend's PST Gen 2. I think meopta could slim down the scope a bit. Magnification ring is very large and a lower profile turret would be nice as well.

I definitely looked at the Athlon and it is a close contender. It seems quite similar to the Vortex. I wish I had both to look at side by side.....to really know.

27.3oz is heavy for a long range hunting scope?

I get that 0-300 yards that there are a lot of single zero optics at 20oz or less.

When I think about a scope with reliable turrets, hunting appropirate glass and reticle, it seems like all those are 25oz through 32 oz. What am I missing? I'm thinking about putting the Athlon on a different rifle!

Are there a bunch of 20oz ffp 3-15x scopes with good turrets, zero stop, clear glass and a Christmas tree reticle?
