vortex scope

That's an awesome scope. You should really like it. Don't be scared to go with the HST either. Pretty much the same exact scope, minus the illuminated reticle (plus you save a few bucks). I thought I had to have the illuminated reticle, so I bought the PST. I have never used it, except for messing around. In hunting situations, I've always been able to make out the reticle without the illumination. So on my next 3 Vortex Vipers, I went with the HST's, and a HS.

Illuminated reticle is overrated, IMO, as well. I've had plenty of them, and never used them. I also have 3 HST's and an HS. Vortex makes great optics, even their cheaper stuff is better than the mid-grade stuff of yesteryear. And their mid-grade stuff (HS, HST, etc...) is on-par with the $1,200 scopes of just a few years ago.

If you've never looked through an HST, you should. The only differences in the HST vs. the PST is that the HST has a wire reticle, and the PST has an etched-glass reticle, the PST has illumination, and the PST has different reticles. Other than that, they are the same exact scope, same glass, same lens coating, same turrets, same scope body, same everything.

you sold me!

thanks for the information. I have an illuminated scope and don't really care for it. Never use the feature. About the only thing I didn't like about that scope was the illumination.

this Grendel is really going to be my hog and coyote gun. that is why I am not choosing the 6-24. Probably use the 4X more than anything. Trying to keep it light. Have several hbar ar's that are great at the range but not for carrying. the HST is a little lighter and has a 44mm objective so will be more compact. You saved me some money too!

I do like the PST reticle better but I am a dialer anyway. About all I use a reticle for is a quick correction if I can see impact on a miss anyway. Going to get to spend June in the Four Corners country. Should be some good long range shooting areas available out there.

hope I get the barrel soon. If not I have plenty of others to choose from.

The HST's are exceptional optics. For the money, I would certainly not discriminate the SWFA SS fixed-power scopes. They were originally built for Navy Barret .50 BMG sniper rifles, under government contract with Tasco. When the contract ran out, Tasco sold the SS name to SWFA in Texas, who still builds them to the same specs. Those fixed-power scopes originally cost the Navy over $800 each on a mil contract... But now you can get one for $299 since they are civilianized. For the money, they are built like tanks, and well worth the money.

The video in this thread might give you some better insight on them.
