Vortex 3-15 Razor LHT review

Great work as always Alex. It's nice to have such a lightweight scope with the features the LHT offers prove to be reliable. It really makes things nice when you can have all the benefits and the scope still be proven to track.

Alex, Thank you for this report, I have 2 Vortex scopes and like them. I am mow looking for the best price on a this scope for my CZ .223 to replace a Minox that has been returned to factory for repair.

I love the features of the vortex 3-15x50 that I have. This is the one sold at europtic or optics planet as the "euro version". I have found one complaint with it. The tracking lags terribly. I will dial up and the first shot will land significantly low then the next will all be up where they should be. I have recently began working the turret to see if that will help reduce the lag but haven't confirmed that it has helped yet. I have used the reticle to check that the rifle is producing the correct drop then dial up and its low. If anyone has any input to help with the lag other than send it back, then let me know.
Nightmare material for long range hunting. I would be sending it in, even if that's not what you want to hear.

I recently purchased an LHT and am very impressed with it so far. I am waiting for my rifle to get back from the smith so I can mount it and get to the range. As long as it tracks as well as yours, I can't think of a single thing to complain about. Might just be the best lightweight hunting scope on the market.

I too have one of the MOA "euro optics" x50 versions and it's becoming my favorite hunting scope. I love the dot.

Mine has tracked true and been great.

Only one complaint that I have, parallax adjustment seems finicky and this particular model doesn't have yardage marks to get you in the ballpark. I've bought a paint pen and plan to remedy that soon.

I've had my eye on one of these also. My only concern has been the reticle. I wish they'd offer one without the "Christmas Tree". Not to derail this thread, but do any of you use that feature when hunting? (the Christmas tree)

I had not seen that one. It looks to be not quite so "busy". I looked through another model in the store, and my eyes couldn't tell what was going on below the center of the reticle. I'd just as soon have a single dot to focus on, but that's just me.

Have you looked at or tested the Vortex Strike Eagle 3-18x44 SFP IRMOA scope? I just got one to put on a TC Omega .40 smokeless conversion. It's a long range hunting gun. I have a Vortex Viper gen2 PST 5-25x50 FFP IRMOA and I like the scope a lot for the money & it's held up very well under some pretty serious loads.
I have not.

When you screw a turret clockwise your loading the spring that holds the erector tube assembly. When you go counterclockwise your unloading it. If you need to adjust a scope in the counter clockwise direction its a good practice to go past your mark a little then come back. It should not be necessary but if its a critical shot in really cold weather it sure does not hurt. In your case Id send it back. Vortex is very good about fixing issues.

I got my hands on one of these from a buddy. We are always looking for a light weight scope that has features of the heavy scopes. I wanted to put it on the scope checker to see if it would hold zero and track accurately. A scope checker is a one piece mount that has a frozen scope (45x leupold) mounted in fixed rings on one rail and the scope your testing on the other rail. The frozen scope is used as a reference. I put a ruler at 100yds and aimed the 45x at 30". Then dialed the razor over to the same point. After verifying both were aimed to the same point I dialed 10 minutes into the razor and re aimed it to 30". The 45x now was aimed at 19 1/2". Good, next I dialed up another 10moa and reaimed. Now the 45x was aimed very close to 9". I only took it up to 25 moa from zero but this scope dialed accurately to less than one click of error up to 25 moa. I cant same that for my current light weight scope which ads 1 moa over the last 10 moa of travel. I did also dial up and down a bunch and it always came back to zero. The other test is how it holds zero. Same deal, aim both reticles to the same spot and shoot a round for a recoil impulse. Then re aim the frozen scope, if the razor held its zero it will also be aimed to the same spot. It was. I fired enough rounds to be satisfied. Bottom line, I just wanted to share that this is a really solid option for a light weight scope. A lot of scopes fail these tests, so Im impressed with this thing. Just FYIView attachment 284655
Nice review , I may look into for a 17 hornet if one ever shows up, I like the illuminated dot, even on the Vortex Crossfire 2 it's a winner for me , extremely fast target acquisition for varmint hunters.
