Until 6.5prc data becomes more readily available with more powders and bullets what's everyone's thoughts on using 6.5x284 load data as starting points for 6.5prc loads?

I've seen most that data and it's for heavy bullets. I'm looking for data on 100-130 grain bullets using popular powders in those weights such as h4350 which I'm not seeing any published data. This is why I was looking towards 6.5x284 to use as starting loads to do load work ups.

Bigeclipse the new Edition 6 of the Sierra manual has load data for 107, 120 and 130 grain projectiles for H4350 amongst a lot of other powders. It also of course has data for the 140-150 grain bullets for the 6.5 PRC.

They should be fine. Very similar case capacities. My prc runs a little more powder then my 6.5-284 using same bullet and powder combo at the same level I see traditional psi signs.

Case capacities are about identical, regardless, one should start low and work up as chambers and barrels can vary....even for a specific recipe for a given cartridge.

The Sierra 6th Edition Loading Manual does NOT have load data for Berger VLD bullets. One must call Berger Bullets to get the specific data pertaining to Berger products. I'm glad I called Berger to inquire about 140 grain VLD, 6.5 PRC information. I was going to use the generic 140 grain data from the Sierra manual. Turns out that the two sets of data were hugely different, which would have had me starting out ten grains low. That scenario, of course, would have had it's own set of problems.

So, I called Berger, whose tech support staff is amongst the best in the firearms industry.
Their phone number is 660-460-2802.

We reloaders can disagree on almost everything, but we MUST be relentless about obtaining accurate data specific to our applications.
