i know this should be in the general discussion thread, but I want the most visibility possible.

I shipped two scopes to a forum member from an Atlanta UPS. The guy packaged them at the store after I told him not to. He said he had to since I purchased the box and bubble wrap from them.

Before I could even asked if they were properly packaged he had them in the back. I told him I wanted to see it and he said not to worry and it’s already taped up.

They charged me $70 to ship and insure the two scopes for $1k. Well the forum member gets the scopes and they are all beat to hell. The scopes were just floating around in the boxing banging against each other. I tell him I’m going to get him some money back.

I put in the claim and UPS is saying it’s my fault since I didn’t pack it myself, and then their customer care rep saw the pics from the claim and went as far as to say that it looks like normal wear and tear. She also said that since the box wasn’t damaged it can’t be UPS fault. I asked her to review the store footage of her employee packing it, and she said that I’m the one packing the box which is absolute horse----.

Take a look at the pics and tell me what you guys think? UPS is a garbage company. I’ll post the address of this specific store, and I’m leaving them a negative review if they don’t fix it. What’s the point of PAYING for insurance if you can’t use it?!

I assume you have pre shopping pictures. You should be able to get these replaced. Though it may take a lot of frustration

Most ups stores are subcontract/franchise stores and they only pay minimum wage with no benefits--- unless this was a ups hub.

Other thing is, I feel the "insurance " is just a scam. You usually have to produce a receipt to show value, online sales or pricing usually wont work and if it's a discontinued item- good luck....also need to view their terms of insurance/packing terms, I'm not sure if it holds true any more but you used to have to have a minimum of 3" of "approved" packing materials on every side of the object to qualify for insurance reimbursement and a proper thickness box and proper strapping tape.

I ship a large pelican box (24" cube case) that weighs 117 pounds back and forth from CO to CA all the time, on a ups account it costs $98, directly in the "ups and more" store it costs $236-- what a mark up!!-- the drivers still manage to break the pelican box every few years so I get to try to have ups pay for a $400 pelican shipping box every few years -- double handles even.

Not sure who is worse when it comes to insurance claims, ups or USPS

I did. I included them in the claim to show I wasn’t trying to get over on them.

On the flip side (buyer) I mailed the postal money orders a few years back. To my knowledge they never showed up anywhere. You have to wait 6 months before refund.

Sent a check a month ago-got the envelope back-wet, boot tracked, post marked, stamp came off someplace in the adventure, returned for postage.

Between the tweakers chasing the trucks, and some of the employees in the process it's amazing any of it comes together.

I have received 4 calls from UPS, today, trying to figure out what happened. They cannot seem to grasp the box not being damaged. It’s super, super simple.

Their employee packaged it incorrectly. That’s it. That’s the issue and they can’t seem to understand that concept.
