I want to shoot to 500 yds. (that's long range for me). Most of the remmington Heavy bbl. guns in .308 are in 1 in 12" Twist. Hmmmm...I was under the impression 168 & 175 gr bullets (best for longer ranges) would be better w/ a fater 1 in 10" twist. Should I shy awa y from the Rem and go for a Win or Savage in 1 in 10" ?

The 12 twist will work just fine for the 168 and 175 SMK. The 175 will remain stable out to 1k with the 12x provided you launch them with at least 2400 FPS. No need to over spin your bullets.

I you need to shoot a bullet much bigger than the 175, then think about a 11 or 10x

Or hey if a 10x gives you the confidence you need, by all meens use a 10.

After talking to a few gunsmiths, they said that most .308s barrels are 1 in 12, and that mostly it doesn't matter too much. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
