Folks,

Was at the range today tuning up for deer/bear season. I have 2 rifles that I use, a Mossberg Patriot in 7mm-08, and M77 Hawkeye in the same caliber. I took the Patriot out, with 40 rounds of handloads.
Virgin Privi brass, #34 primer, 44.5gr RL17, 140gr TTSX. COAL was 2.757. 3-4 shot groups were excellent, smallest was .53, largest .85 at 100 yards. Deer silhouette targets paper. Conditions were 90-95 degrees, winds 3-5 mph SE.
The Hawkeye, my favorite of the 2 rifles, will be getting a trigger up grade. A Rifle Basix adjustable, from 14oz-2.5lbs. I will keep it at 2.5. Even with a new trigger spring from Erniethegunsmith.com, which helped reduced the trigger pull from 6lbs to 4lbs. Big improvement, but not to my satisfaction.
This rifle was one of the last All Weathers available, brand new $499. But the Hawkeye rifles I have owned all had to he crappy LC6 trigger. Heavy, gritty, creepy. C'mon Ruger.
The Patriot was tested out to 400 yards, and was 3 for 4 on a 12 inch swinger. 200 and 300 was child's play. All in all a good day. A2
