Trigger options for older Howa

Hey guys, I'm in need of a little help. I've got an old Howa 1500 chambered in 243 win. I've had this rifle for 21 years. It was my first high power rifle, and I've killed a lot of deer with it. It's still my go to deer rifle. I've adjusted and adjusted the trigger on this, and I've got it set as good as the factory trigger is ever going to get. I'm wondering if there is an aftermarket trigger option out there for this rifle. It's the older 2 position trigger. I've found replacement triggers for the newer 3 position triggered Howas, but not for the older version. Does anyone know of any options? Thanks for your time.

The Timney replacement should work just fine. It works on the 2 position Vanguards I own, and they're essentially the same rifle.

Thanks. I've read some reviews say that with minor modifications it will work, and I've read some that say it won't. So I was a little scared to spend 150 bucks on one if it didn't. Thanks for the input. I like my other timney triggers, so I'm hoping that it will fit.

Six-0, Timney is in North Phoenix, call their number on their site. They will be glad to help you. Their 3 position Vanguard trigger is $124.75 and you can pick it up at their shop. Just tell them the pull you want and they'll have it usually the same day. You may need to do some inletting to fit it, but not much depending on the stock. Good luck

Thanks. I've got a request in, just waiting on a response. I'm actually going to be down south this weekend, so I might stop in and get one in person.

One thing about most factory triggers is not just in the adjustment of the trigger by turning the screws, but in the smoothness, sharpness and angle of the sear and contact edge. Check the contact edges. A friend of mine at work got a rifle with a sear that looked like a minature pipe wrench jaw. it would sometimes go at about 3 lb. the next time the bolt was cocked it would go off the trigger scale and you could pick the rifle up by the trigger without it firing. Some proper stoning the rifle got a sweet 3lb. hunting trigger.

If your rifles' trigger was taken apart and the sear and contact edges checked and stoned properly you may have the trigger you want, With just someone stoning the trigger. Or replace the trigger. Be safe and Good Luck.

I got a response back from timney, and they said trigger number 609 is the trigger for me. I'm placing my order today. Thanks for the help everyone.

I got the trigger in the mail yesterday guys. It fit the action perfectly and I was able to adjust it down to 1.5 lbs perfectly. In fact it would go a little lower to 1 lb, but I didn't feel comfortable there if I were to ever drop my rifle. So I bumped it back up to 1.5 lbs. It feels amazing. The only problem is in the stock. The front adjustment screw on the new trigger is going to have a slight clearance issue with the aluminum bedding block in my Hogue Full Aluminum Bed Block Stock. I'm going to have to remove a small amount of aluminum from it for a good fit. But It's not that big of a deal. I'll take some pictures and post them once I get it done. Thanks for the help everyone. This trigger is much better than the stock trigger that came with the rifle (even though the stock trigger is very nice).
