top magnification for 1000yds

I'm looking to get into long range rifle shooting and need a scope. I'm looking at the Leupold Mark 4's, is a 20x top magnification good enough, or should I spend the extra money for a 25x?

20 is plenty for hunting and target shooting. You can get away with less for hunting and may like more for target but 20 is a good power in my opinion.

I believe the low end is 8 power. I think it is $5,000+.

You are correct that the low power on that scope is 8. But the price is in the $3,800 to $4,200 range depending on illumination and reticle.

I do hope to have one someday. That is a really cool scope. I wish more companies would be able to give a broader magnification range. I think that's cool that after 60x the eclipsing goes away.
