Thinking about a 6.5x284

All they need is the reamer so you should be able to get one from any of the manufacturers doing any sort of 6.5 Remage barrels.
I look forward to your results! I notice some boohoo the RPM and act as though it would not be much faster than a 6.5x284. I understand diminishing returns and how it applies in this case to a relatively small bore but it seems to me with a 24' barrel for both we would expect 2950-3050 fps with a 6.5x284 and 3150-3200 for the RPM and I would expect the vel. difference to grow as the bullets get heavier assuming both are chambered in a matter to get optimal results. I have a M700 .270 that I am looking at converting to a REMAGE, I could go either way but I think an RPM with loads that are mild but still outrunning a PRC or 6.5x284 by a little has some merit. Getting a REMAGE tube in RPM could be a challenge but Likely to be available by someone. [/QUOTE Later down the line the RPM might be the cat's meow but the 6.5 284 has a lot of versatility one being the availability of precision brass such as Lapua. Another plus is you can use a 284 win bushing die and load 6.5 -284 - 25 -284 - or the 284 win .load 6.5. -284 neck down too 25-284 or neck 6.5 284 up too the 284 win I do all of the above with a Redding bushing 6.5-284 fl size die and a comp 284 seat die . The 284 parent case is hard too beat. The Lapua 6.5-284 brass is some tough brass and you can load it hot.

Well this posting cost me a bit of money. Bought a rifle off of Mike from Texas. Great guy. Thanks all for your comments.
So I'm a month late to the party but this has been a great thread to read through. I think it's a testament to this round that is still so popular and I can't blame you for getting into it. I shoot a straight 284, 6.5x47 and 6BRA in f-open, 300wsm, 270wsm (170 EOLs) and 300wm for hunting, and the 6.5x284 was a round i just had to build a rifle for, so I have one in the shop now.

I'm planning to load 4831sc and 142SMKs in Norma brass with Russian primers. I'm hoping to be in that 2950fps range. This will be an all- purpose rifle for me, targets out to 1200 and whitetails out to 700. Build is a Tenacity LA (full nitride), 28" Krieger 8tw HV, McM a5, hawkins 3.715 bottom metal and Accu Mag (300 wm) mag, calvin elite trigger.

Good luck with your new rig, let us know how it develops.

No matter how many new 6.5's come along in the next 50 years for a high mid range velocity 6.5 it's going to remain a very respectable round.

I have 2 rifles chambered in this cartridge. My kills have been white tail deer woth 140 grain going 3050, and a nice 5x6 elk with 156s. Both rifles are sub 1/2 moa accurate woth very easy load development. Good Lapua brass is readily available. Yiu can make thos cartridge perform well woth H4831, H1000, H4350, RL26 (my choice) and retumbo......I loved it so much, I am building a 6x284 to compliment the 2- 6.5s that I have now. You can't go wrong. Just be sure to build it on a long action.

I had a 6.5/284 on a Mauser action, that allowed me to utilize the longer magazine box. Someone else really wanted the rifle so it went away. I also had and still have a 6.5/06 and it shoots just as well, and both are great deer rifle cartridges. I sure wouldn't pass one up if the right deal came around. I also sold my model 70 264-win mag as I seemed to reach for the 6.5/06 when I wanted to go hunting. I even sold my model 70 in 270 as it just seemed to gather dust. The 6.5/284 is a fine cartridge, I favor a long action for it.
I'm in the process of putting together a 6.5-284 hunting rig built on a 1910 Mexican Mauser. The Mauser action length is perfect for this cartridge.

Thank you Sir and I will keep you posted!!

I put a bartlien 2b on my old 270 Tikka T3 and chambered it in 6.5x284. In the last year I've shot 7 red deer and a chamois buck with it and I'm very impressed with it so far.

20" barrel supressed
153.5 berger hybrid
RL 26 2850fps.
