I am wondering what you guys think would be a good bullet for Whitetail to Elk. I'm working up a 140 Nosler Partition now and I get around 3260 fps, The rifle also shoots the 127 LRX bullet well, but could be light for long range work...Thanks for your help

I would load the 124g Hammer Hunter. About 3600 fps makes this very serious pretty far.
I just ran JBM at 3000' elev. Impact velocity at 600y is 2500 fps. Still holds almost 1900 fps at 1000y.

Also note the max point blank range to 450y with no hold over adjustment.

The classic bullet design for hunting is the Nosler Partition. Absolutely reliable when the hunter does his job with bullet placement.
These are the days when we have a terrific selection of the standard bullets as well as some of the finest more specialized bullets to test.
The best performance I've managed so far is from the Badlands 135 grain SBZ-2. Lots of legs for those potentially longer shots and remaining energy for those bigger bodied elk hunts.
This doesn't push away the Hammer bullets at all, I'm just adding to the list of bullets to try.

Your current set-up is no slouch. I just ran the numbers, and with my unwritten rule, it is an 800Y elk gun with good shot placement. I used NP for a long time before transitioning to NBT and NAB in Nosler offerings. I also used ABLRs but had better luck with NABs.

The 156 is a harder bullet. I wouldn't hesitate to run it. In my 6.5-300. I run the 124 hammers. It has been a lot of fun. Before hammers was the 127 lrx. Attached are pictures of the animals I took from 157 yards to 683. The antelope was at 683. The white tail buck was at 397, the elk was at 157. None of them took a step. I switched to hammers because Barnes didn't wanna take care of the customer and I wanted a bullet that shed fragmented and made some different wound channels. I will sash I'm not running the 124's at 3600. Im running them at 3400 which is still no slouch. I had them up over 3500 but es was ulgy and over 600 my accuracy was horrible.

I doubt his rifle has enough twist for the 135 SBD-2. He could try the 125 BD-2, but they'll launch a bit slower than the 124 HH and won't hold together quite as well at closer ranges/higher velocities. They both have their place. I would determine max range and work from there on a choice. I personally like monos for these fast guns when you have to account for the possibility of near range shots, but still run Berger's in some where the MV is not much over 3k. I'm pushing the 123 AH right at 3,500 & 1/2 MOA out of a 24" 6.5 Sherman Max. Pretty potent combo. Gives me a psychological boost whenever I got a Hammer in the chamber because I know I can pretty much take on any shot scenario and expect good results.
(not a shabby high-speed entrance hole here from a 123 AH that ran through a large WT doe almost end for end starting in the driver's side rear ham
