Has anybody with the 115gr bullet 3" high at 100 yds shot this rifle to 400yds and zeroed. I read this pease in Rifle Shooter that out west without any wind this guy shot to 300yds with it first and had a bullet hole an inch high, Then shot to 400 yds and zeroed. He did all this with the 257 Wby Mag zeroed at 100 yds 3" high shooting Nosler 115 gr bullet.

Well, one bullet at each target . . . sounds like a combination of poor sighting and/or lots of verticle. To have the bullet only be 3" high at 100 yards and dead on at 400, he would be shooting in excess of 3600 fps, and at 300, the bullet would be in the neighborhood of 5" high or more. Sounds like another case of the BS. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I ran the numbers as well. A .257 WM should get around 3400fps with a 115g bullet. I used the 115g btip for its high BC to see if that would matter. Sighted in 3" high at 100, that puts it dead on at 320 yards, and it drops 6.5 inches at 400. So unless he is getting somewhere around 3600fps with the 115g bullets, I very highly doubt hes dead on at 400. His midrange trajectory is a smidgen over 4" at 175-200 yards as well.

Yes, the current Shooting Times had this article if I am not
mistaken & written by Layne Simpson. Gun writers can do things that mere mortals can't I guess.
