Target/hunting load for 300 win mag

Guys,

I bought a Seekins 300 win mag a few weeks ago. I've worked up one load with Partitions 200 grains for strictly hunting but I want to work up another load for target and hunting. I'm looking at 208 Gr Hornady ELD and 210 Gr Berger VLDs.

What's the best powder/s for these bullets?

H-1000 is like magic in a 300 win mag. RL-26 will get you more speed. H-1000 is the more consistant of the two

H1000 and 215 Hybrids, best choice for hunting and target shooting in my experience.

It will be hard to beat the 215 with H1000 for a do everything combo.

As other have said 215 begers, or I've had great luck with the 200-212 gr ELD-X (my current 300 likes the 200 ELD-X). I only shoot H-1000 currently in the 300 WM, with my current load at 79 gr. at .020" off the lands with CCI 250 primers (be sure to work up to this charge as I know it would be hot in a lot of chambers). I know several others have had good luck with Retumbo as well.

Imr7828ssc 181g Hammer Hunter at 3150fps is great medicine! This is a dedicated hunting bullet that will let you shoot targets as far as you want.

I'm busy with load development of in a Remington 700 5r .300 Win. Using H1000 and 215 bergers with Nosler brass and fed 215 primers. First four loads tested all shot about 1 MOA. Looking for better than that but not bad for the first 4.

As many have said H1000 is a great powder in the 300 win. I have found that 300 is very easy to find a good load with as long as you are using quality components. My do all load for my 300 is 208 eldm and H1000 in Nosler brass. I have always found with most brass I have always found a good node between 76 and 77. Currently my load is 76.4 gr seated .010 off lands. I wanted to go 215s or even 220s but I have a shorter 300 win because of the TBAC Ultra 9 I run on it to help a little with OAL of rifle. I always see so many people rolling along with the H1000. I've been really impressed that so many use it. It must be a good powder but I've never used it as my .300 with the 168 gr A-Max or the 208 A-Max with H4350 or IMR4350 will drop rounds in the > .5 MOA area at 500 yds all day long. As they say, why change if it works so good. I was getting a chrony load of around 2860-2900'/sec on it for consistent rounds. I also neck size and do a lot of case prep on my brass. Necks are .0110" to .0115" thk and my setback from the lands is right at .015"-.017" I also loaded up some 240grain Sierra match kings to hunt with and use MagPro powder with the because I couldn't find load data to even get started on the heavy lead stuff. So expensive to shoot those, so I did a 1/2 dozen to confirm the data on the charts and went huntin'. This is all in a Savage 110 BA/S with a 12-42 x 56 Nightforce.

H1000 is a little on the slow side for the 168's you're running. H4831 and 4350 (like you're running) are great for that range.

As said previously, 215 or 210 berger and H1000 is very tough to beat.
