Sucker for 6.5s

little bighorn: this will help today my neighbor reloads in my shop and uses my chronograph uses the 6.5/284. today with a 140 serria game king 54.5 gr of IMR 7828 primers look good no show of pressure 3050. I shoot the 6.5/06 with 52 gr the same powder 3020. my bl is 25" the 6.5284 has a 24"bl. I also get almost the same results with H 1000. a good guide is the powders that work best in the 25/06 also work best in the 6.5s including the 264. this round is a true magnum without the belt just like the 25/06-6.5/o6 6.5 rem mag and the ole but great 270 winchester. mmay I add reloader 25 .
Thanks mt west. I don't have any 7828 or H1000. I tried H4831sc with unimpressive results but I just got some RL 26 and RL23 that I am planning to try.

chuckhunter3: you got an early 264. is the 284 6.5 comparable to the 264 win. My nesxt door neighbor, was a guide the the bob marshal for elk hunters and in alaska. he thought the westerner was the best thing to come to the mountains. after a client killed one about 500 yards away.

I had been told before that the h1000 was not a good powder for the 264 win. I originally bought it for my 7rem mag. Would it be a good powder for the 6.5 prc??

MTank I think a 1 in 9 twist is better for the 264.win mag the 1 in 8 is for heavy bullets for paper shooting.. Hunters may need a lighter bullet like a 130 grain for up to elk and a 140. Another thing all guns are different and some just wont shoot like you want.. If you not shooting paper and for general huntin the 1 in 9 is the best and winchester used it in the original 264 win for a reason. It was a hunting rifle for the plans and the bean fields.
I've never tried loading for my model 70 that is a 9 twist. I've always shot the nosler 130 accubond factory loads with it. Zero @ 200 & have 3 shots touching. Still has a factory Woodstock & uses a viper hs 4x16x44 scope. I've thought about tricking it out but everytime I think about I tell myself leave it be.

I've heard this too although I can't understand why. Ive seen several posts mentioning Retumbo for the 264 & a guy here swears by RL 33... both of them are slower burn rate than H-1000.... someone enlighten me please

Go to long range only theres a great write up by Broz in there Long with load data for the CA RL in 6.5 PRC

H1000 is fine in the 6.5 PRC. If you want maximum velocity, guys are using Reloder 26 to get in the 3100+ area. I am personally using reloder 25 to shoot 140s right at 3000 fps.

Sorry. Just saw your post. My 264 was a custom built on a Mauser action. I was just a teenager at the time. I did not keep it long as it only had a 22" barrel.

I just bought a 6.5-06 off of gunbroker. Rem 700 action, jewel trigger, 26" brux barrel. 28 " if you have the brake on, but I doubt I'll even use that. He's including load data, and a 1/2" group @ 300 yard target that he shot with the rifle. So then on Ebay, I bought a Sightron SII 4-16 x 42 mildot scope to put on it. The scope was bought new, put on a 223 and then never shot with, so essentially, a new scope. No doubt, the gun and scope will far exceed my abilities.
