Really confused on this one. I have gotten so much negative and positive input for each! I was looking at Zeiss victory steel, Burris Burris XTR Xtreme Tactical Rings, Leupold QR steel, SWFA, and some others.
Need to mount my NF 2.5x10x42mm on my 378 WBY.
Am I overthinking the matter?

Any input would be appreciated.

BTW going with a picatinny rail. Should I go 0 moa or 20 moa

Near manufacturing out of canada. Near Manufacturing - Rifle Scope Bases I have the 20 moa rail by them and the ALPHAMOUNT Scope Rings with 0 moa. This is on my 30-378 w mag with a night force nsx. I have had 0 issues with this set up, and Richard Near is a great person to speak with about mounts and shooting in general

I agree with wtdii2d above.

I use Near Manufacturing rails bedded by my smith to the receiver. Then I use either Near or Seekins rings. The precision rings from Vortex are from Seekins.

I use 10 MOA rails so far. I like my zero as close to the scopes center as I can yet get the dial up for max range of the rifle and load for hunting.

I have the Near Alphamount on my 338-378 Wby and couldn't be happier with the strength or the unique and sharp look of it.

As far as what base angle to get, 0 or 20 MOA, Mr. Near will be able to get you set up right if tell him your intended use and distances you plan to shoot.

I don't think you can get a better looking mount for the Mark V than the near 1 piece and that hammerlock design on the WBY magnums is pretty amazing. It has 30 MOA of cant built in to it. You may not need that on the 378.

I have them on all but one of my WBY's now. The 3 ring mount will do very nicely on a rail as well.

Good luck and shoot straight

Bob

I agree, use a steel base if weight is not an issue. Warne makes a good steel base. I highly recommend bedding the base, unless it's a tubular receiver like a Savage. I don't see a drawback to a 20 MOA offset in the base. I usually use Seekins for heavy tactical mounts. Recently I tried Burris XTR and thought the quality was very good for the price. For carrying rifles, I go with aluminum bases and rings, though.

Agreed on the above about Near and Seekins. The Vortex PMR series are made by Seekins and they are fabulous rings. I usually go with Leupold Mark4 aluminums purchased through the mil program or either the Vortex PMR or Seekins branded rings.

I had bad experiences with scope slippage in the Burris XTR rings on my non braked 300 WSM, despite added torque and tricks to increase grip. I stopped considering them as an option. They now reside on my 10/22.
