Stocks for pre-64 win 70

My father in law is looking to replace the stock on his pre 64 winchester model 70 in 300wm. I have looked around a little, but there doesn't seem to be much out there. I think he would consider wood or composite, his main complaint is that his rifle shoots inconsistantly and he suspects the stock. Any recomendations?
