Hello

I'm looking for suggestions for a starting load?

Rifle=Model 700 Sendero 26"

Powder I have in stock H-1000, Retumbo, RE-25
Primers=WLRM,Fed215, Fed 215M, CCI-250
Brass= RP, Norma

With the Temp. changes here in Wyoming, I'm leaning toward H-1000?

I appreciate your suggestion in advance.

I use H1000 with the 215 Hybrids and 210 VLDs. 90.3 gr gets me right at 3100fps from a 28" Rock Creek. Fairly hot, but not over pressure. I started at 85.5gr @ 2960fps and worked up.

I use Retumbo with the 230 Hybrid @ 3068fps. Very hot load. I would think start around 86.0.

RL25 is fairly temperature sensitive, so I would look at RL26 or RL33 before that. Much more temp stable.

I agree at 86 for a starting point for retumbo. I'm shooting 91.2 with 230 hybrids out of a 26" proof barrel at 3005 average. It's on the high side but works for a year round load in az for me. Decent brass life and no issues. I get a solid 100fps more speed out of every bullet over 200grns with retumbo vs h1000 with the same indicators.

I have some loaded up right now to test hopefully this week. I started at 85 grains with RL 26 and have them loaded up to 87.5 but I expect to see pressure some where around 86.5 or 87. I already shoot the 220 ELDX bullets at 87 grns of RL26. Good round and right at max with now real pressure issues. I was hoping to get to 87 on the bergers since they have a slightly shorter bearing surface but the extra 10 grains in weight might keep me lower. According to hornady data 87 was right at the red zone for the 220's but I did not have any issues. I hope I can get out this week. It looks like its going to be back in the 60's on Friday here in Utah. I have yet to give the H1000 a try and I have 2 pounds setting on my shelf. I was loading for a 257 weatherby that ran the H1000. Maybe I should stuff some of that in a case and see how it does.

You can safely start at 84 gr of H-1000 with the 230 gr Berger in your 300 RUM.

A couple of years ago I decided I didn't need to run max loads in my 300 RUM and found an accurate load with 86 gr of H-1000 with the 230 gr Berger. The velocity of my 24" barreled 8 1/2 lb rifle is 2800 fps. (why 24"? because I rechambered a 300 win mag takeoff) This short lightweight rig is wonderful for chasing elk in the dark timber and still has plenty of power for longer shots.

I was sharing with my friend who also shoots the same combination and was surprised that he also uses 86 grs of powder with his RUM.

Shooting the 215 Berger Hybrid in a 26" Montana rifle. Retumbo, Federal 215M and Nosler brass. H1000 wasn't as accurate in this rifle, but wasn't too far behind the Retumbo. Started at 88.0gr Retumbo and worked up. When we worked up this load, couldn't find any 230OTM Bergers. Pic is @200yds.

My hunting load prints about like that at 200 yards. It runs about 3020FPS. 220ELDX with 87grains of RL26.

AZShooter.. Are you the same guy that made the video with the group on steal at/or about 1000yrds that printed about the size of a car alarm key pad? It was few years back I think on the video. if that the same gun that was some darn good shooting. Was that your H1000 load?

91 grns of Retumbo is the sweet spot in my Sendero with the 230 OTM's touching 3000fps.
I never got the Targets to shoot in it .

Well I tested my loads today. First I'll say I did something different that I haven't done in a log time and that is the way I prepped the brass for these loads. I have a RCBS necksizer die that I used on these rounds. I was able to get a shoulder bump and just neck sizing. They still all measure the same at the base (web) and chambered just ok but was not tight. Just not as smooth as full length sizing. At 86 grains of RL26 I had hard ejector swipe and a little noticeable difference in bolt lift. Also had primer flatting and cratering. Velocity was 3016, 3020, and 3023. The group sucked also. It was about 3 inches. I was shooting at 200 yards. The 85 grain load was fine for pressure and shot 2940, 2946, 2938. It also was about 2.5 inch. Also all of these were loaded to 3.66 OAL so they would fit into the mag. I did not shoot any thing higher than the 86 grains. I'll pull the rest back apart and do the full length size like my hunting rounds and do a seating depth test probably at 84 grains...Not a good day shooting but a better day than being at work,
