I know we have a public range at Blacks Creek, but I recall that you only get 200yds.

Does anyone know of any good places in the area where you can set up in the 500 to 1000 yd range?

I would think there should be some decent public land in the flats to the south, but I don't know of any.

Thanks.

I do a lot of shooting south of town(Kuna), you just need to be aware of the Birds of Prey area and the regulations. I go up Blacks Creek Road a lot also, lots of places to shoot all the way around almost to the middle fork of the Boise. If you want to get together and shoot sometime let me know.

The Parma Rod & Gun Club has excellent facilities. From the main firing line you can shoot 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 meters. They also have a second area where you can shoot out to 1000 yards.

bookworm,

I'm a member of Parma Rod and Gun club and everything that gbraach told you is correct. We also have 'relaxed competitions' that we call LRTR shoots. This stands for Long Range Tactical Rifle shoots. The shoots usually cost around $30 and are a combination of training and competition in long range shooting. We don't get that serious about the competition part as we only score to see how we did against each other. There are no prizes. Anyway, we shoot from 50 yards out to 1200 yards mainly with .308's, 300WM's or other "small" calibers. Every now and then we break out the .338's and .50's to shoot even further. We will sometimes have a class on how to shoot and discuss different technique's also.

Once a year we have an "off site" shoot, where we go up in the hills and shoot across canyons, up and down hills, and use our navigational skills to find the firing points and targets. It is a great shoot, especially if you like moderate off roading. These shoots will have targets out to a mile.

If you'd like to know more, you can contact me or visit the Parma web page for more information. Our next LRTR shoot will be January 10th.

Devin

Where exactly off of Blacks Creek is the public area? The only areas I saw were all fenced in.

Bookworm gave the map, it's off of Kuna/Mora. Look for a big silver saguaro cactus sorta looking statue and the entrance is just east of that.

I was told that there was an area off of Black's Creek where you set up your own targets and shoot into a hillside, no? Kind of a free-for-all if that makes sense. I think it was North on Black's Creek. I'll check out the Black's Creek Range too.

It is located between the Hwy exit and the public range I sent directions to (as I recall). I have not been out there in awhile, but I heard recently that they posted that whole area and it's no longer available for shooting.

I have not been out there to witness this myself, but it sounds like KRP may be more in the know than me.

I live on the west side of town so I'm scouting for places out my direction to go shoot.

You're correct, it's right next to the reservoir.
