What brass are you using and load if you don't mind divulging the info?

Tank

210gr Berger VLD Target .020 off of the lands
63.8gr H4831sc
Federal Brass
Rem 9 1/2M Primers
2.970 COAL

Shoots outstanding for me out of my savage with 24" barrel. I wish my throat was a little bit longer. But it seems to work well. I am using a redding neck sizer die and anealing my case necks every 3rd firing.

My 243 action before I finished it. Cant seem to find pics of the complete rifle.

jcoop,

Where can I find a carbon fiber bolt like in your top pic? I'm a sucker for carbon fiber and am looking for an aftermarket bolt for my Savage 10FP .308. Thanks

I made it myself. I do not know of anyone that makes them and sales them. I work with carbon fiber for a living and also am a sucker for it. :D

Have you tested the carbon fiber bolt body yet? What would you charge for that thing? I like the bolt knob too.

That is cool. I bet you can answer a question I have. I want to shorten a CF wrapped barrel. How does CF cut in the lathe, any suggestions as to speed? I really only need a sharp shoulder to thread an end cap up to. What am I getting myself into?

any shmuck that can afford to hunt out of a fenced in deer pen, no matter that cost, can jump up and down and say LOOK AT ME!!!! show me something you killed using fair chase, not in a heated blind with a microwave, satellite dish and heat you shot that deer off a feeder anyway. but hey if you are proud of that, hey, WHATEVER.

Yea I have been using it on my .243 for 3 years now. I turned down the original bolt and laid the carbon over the old bolt body.
I am not really set up to do it rite now as I just sold my lathe today. I should have a new one in a few weeks maybe months. It was a pain to turn down as the bolt is surface hardened. I told myself I would not do another one until I got a tool post grinder. Which I should have access to as soon as I get my new lathe.

It cuts pretty easy but feathers out a bit, I usualy need to hit the finished edge with a 3m diamond pad, sand paper also works. You should have no proble just turning a nice shoulder. It dulls cutter very fast but a dull cutter will still cut it pretty well. I usually cut at about 400rpms but it will cut just fine fast or slow.

Thank you, exactly the news I wanted to hear, and very timely as I am going to give it a try this week. I did not have an internal threading tool small enough to single point the end cap and wanted to get closer than a tap. So I was held up for a while. I finally got myself an internal threading tool small enough and expect my buddy to bring the parts over this week. I have a little more confidence now. Thank you. BTW that bolt is sweet. I wish you would do a thread explaining how to do carbon fiber. There is a local gunsmith that does it and I have been meaning to watch him do some but can never make the time.

You need to start a seperate thread about this. I find it very interesting. Do you put the carbon fiber on wet and turn it down when it hardens? Or what, I know very little about it.

Thats awesome work. If you would ever decide to make a few of these to sell please keep me in mind as I would be very interested.

Here is a couple of mine. Both .338 Edge's. The heavy one has a 30" Broughton and weighs 18 lbs. The light one has a 30" Brux and weighs 13.5 lbs the way it sits.
