Whatch'yall think? Wanting to set up a mid weight elk hunting rifle.

300prc
Bergara HMR $999
Cut and thread barrel to 22" $200
Ti Pro 3 Muzzle break $225
Trijicon tenmile 3-18x44 is $1600 new
Atlas Bipod $200
Lapua brass $400
181 Hammer hunter $100 per box
Whidden dies $225

$3250 without primers, powder, bullets

H1000 or Retumbo getting about 3100fps with 24" barrel

Primers Fed215, cci250?

Estimated 3050 fps and the 181HH gives about 1889fps and 1427ft/lbs at 1000yards with a 22" barrel?

Do it. But save your cash and pick up an NXS…proven.

I think your numbers are a bit off on the 181 though. I am at 3335 FPS out of a RUM and it drops below 1800 FPS at a little shy of 975 yards at sea level.

I like it, sounds like a long range hammer. Trijicon makes great scopes! If your not stuck on the 44, eurooptic has a 3-18x50 for $950, it is a sfp though...

If you're looking for a factory rifle I think you're in a good spot.

Only thing I'd shy away from would be a slow twist. Don't go slower than a 10 twist as it will limit your bullet options. If hammers are your goal then a 9 twist is preferred.

I'm building a 30-28 nosler to run 196-214 hammers and 230-245 berger on an 8 twist at 24 inches.

You said elk so I did a quick ballastics calculation at 8000 feet you'll see nearly 1900 fps at 1k.

You have a similar idea as me. I built a 300 prc for a medium range elk gun last year around the 181 hh. Your muzzle velocity numbers should be close but the bc on that bullet is probably not as high as advertised. You should be good to 800 yards or so depending on the elevation and temperature you are shooting in.
