Does anybody have a 6.5 PRC or Saum with a 20" or 22" barrel? Just curious about what kind of velocity to expect out of one.I know there aren't that many PRC's out there yet but I'll take any info on the Saum also. The PRC data that Hornady has up is all out of a 26" barrel and I'm wondering if out of a shorter barrel if it's worth building one or if I'm going to basically have a Creedmoor that burns more powder. Thanks for any info!

I don't own either but I have Saum variants, the 6.5 SS and SST. They are a little more effient than a SAUM, but should be a valid comparison. They would lose about 20' per inch of barrel. The 6.5 ss, for example, would max around 3050 with a 20" barrel and 140 grain bullet. I would guess the Saum would be around 2975-3000' and the PRC around 2900?....rich

I'm getting 2980fps with factory Remington Premier 160 grain Partition ammo in a factory 22" barrel in my 7 SAUM. My 160 grain Accubond reloads are loping along at 2960fps.

I get about 3150 with 140 grain Berger's in a 28" barrel SAUM. That would be about 2980 in a 20".
+1 Rich

Not a 6.5, but I have a 7 RSAUM in a 17.5" bbl XP-100. I've pushed B168VLDH's to 2850 fps and pushed the H162ELDX to 2774 fps (could go more, but stopped there).

I'd think a 6.5 SAUM would do similar with same sectional density bullets.

Thanks for the info guys. 2900 with a 140 in the PRC was kinda what I was guessing and it doesn't look like that was to far off. I'm still not sure what route I'm going to go. I'm already invested in the Creed as far as brass and dies go after owning a few so I'm not sure if I really want to jump into something new.

If you are getting 2800 with 140's in the Creed I don't know if the extra 100 fps from the PRC would be much of a difference.

That's kinda my thought. With a 20" barrel on the Creed with a 140 It seems I usually settle at about 2750 But I usually just stick with H4350 and I know other powders would be a bit faster but the accuracy has always been there.

I have a 20" creed running 140 eld at 2840 with a suppressor. I have shot it out to 1050. I have a 22" 6.5 PRC barrel on the way. I expect it to run 140's at 3050 and 147's at 3000. As with any set up it depends on the components used and barrel. All my proofs have been fast.

IF the PRC is only capable of 100 fps then it's not worth the extra 10 grains of powder. Hoping I haven't wasted a bunch of money, but I feel semi confident I will see 3000 with a 147 in the upper node.

just curious if you have any results yet. I've been debating doing a 20-22" 6.5CM, 6.5PRC, or 270wsm to mate to my TBAC Ultra 7 in jail for an all around deer, truck, medium range lightweight hunting build. Thinking i'm going to scratch the 270wsm idea as ammo is not only a price premium but I've heard can be very finnicky.

Shooting Saturday with a bunch of test loads. Way past due. Too much other bs needed to be done.

So I made it out today and shot retumbo, rl26, and h1k with 215's and 147's. My coal was 2.998 which .040 off. Virgin brass and testing in .5 grain increments to see where approx max charge is and breaking in the barrel. I am pretty sure it'll settle in around 2900-3000 and thinking 2950 is likely where it'll settle in. If a guy goes 140 then 3k is a definite. Anyway I noticed I was getting some pressure with retumbo over 2900 and h1k and rl26 were not yet.

Was shooting 350 and just seeing how they grouped for giggles. I love the sound of steel and hate shooting paper
