Hey guys! Just picked up a custom short barreled 7/08 with an 18" barrel. Wanting to run 151 grain flatliners and 150 eldx or ABLRs. What are your pet 120-150gr bullet loads? What powder and bullets are you using? And what kind of velocities are you seeing from similar length barrels, 16-20"?
Thanks

Generally speaking, the fastest powder in a longer barrel is also going to be the fastest powder in a shorter barrel. Mine likes IMR4451 for 130MK, and h4895 for 130 absolute hammer (Different beast altogether, tends to require much faster powder than same weight traditional lead core, or even traditional monos). I wont list loads, as mine is Ackley improved. In short, just select from powders listed in the manuals and their relative top speeds. You'll be slower, but it should be proportional. Seems like the h4350 burn rate range will be the happy spot for the 150Gr bullets. In the current climate, I'd say whatever you have on the shelf, or whatever you can find will work just great.

RL15 43.0 and 120TSX, 22" factory barrel (Model 70 FWT) 2950FPS.

RL15 41.0 and 140TSX, 22" factory barrel (Model 70 FWT) 2800FPS.

Started using IMR4451 since the RL15 and reloading pandemic. It's making a pretty good showing with both bullets.

42.0 grs. of Varget with a 140 Nosler B.T. 2717fps out of a stock remmy youth model SPS w/ 20" barrel, S.D. 8.7. 2.800 COAL. Half inch MOA out of this rifle. I don't really care about speed when I have this kind of accuracy. This is a max(nosler book) load so approach with caution.
