Short .338 ..??

.. Hey guys.. I have an opportunity to get a 27" finish .338 barrel blank at a great deal.. What cartridges would be fun for plinking around the club out over 1K that wouldn't break-the-bank with custom dies and such.?? Action is a Viper with a .308 boltface but another bolt in a different size could be had as well..
.. I see a lot of neat stuff about the .338 Lapua Mag but a lot of it is from folks selling it and I don't know what the case head dimensions are.. I think it's based on a Jefferies case..

How about a 338 based on a 416 Rigby shortened to around 2.5"

..Hey Boyd..!! Hmmm.. That sounds somewhat familiar..
338 Lapua History
.. 'Cept it's about 2.75" case length.. I was mistaken in my original post.. This cartridge is based on a modified .416 Rigby case.. Are there any other contenders.?? What is the case head size for the .416 Rigby .?? Inquiring minds wanna know.! d:^) JiNC
