SFP vs FFP for hunting

Has the argument changed about SFP or FFP over time?? LINK

I found the linked thread with an interesting flare to it. People down on ffp scopes.

So, I ask myself why could SFP be better?

Are SFP users needing a precise aimpoint on like 3-5x? Perhaps shooting at a 600yd animal on 4.5x with a 4.5-30x scope?

If the issue is low power at 0-150 yd shots, doesn't the ffp reticle on 3-5x have a nice fat appearance, especially with illumination?

I'm starting to prefer ffp all around. I still hunt with my nxs sfp but have been purchasing only ffp optics as the past 2 years or so. I double down some of my prs rigs, and I prefer to practice with what I hunt

I still prefer SFP and dialing. FFP reticle is too small for me on lower powers and I don't like using a reticle for "holdover". For PRS when you're timed, sure.

I didnt read article,but have hunted ffp for past 12 years.I favor for many reasons,never had a issue at low power,taken game in a snap shot at 40-50 yrds in thick timber

It's personal preference I typically have to work my way through thick timber in grizz country to get up to open areas for the longer range stuff If I catch them in bush too bad for them3-4 for bears pictures showing thick and semi open. Son on open top

No Right or Wrong answer.

Boils down to intended use, personal preference, & scope features, operations, & utilization.

I prefer SFP for my hunting scopes. I prefer the reticle to remain constant in size & only the target/animal size to change with magnification. This provides a familiar & fast sight picture for me throughout the scopes magnification range.

I have developed a system for utilizing SFP subtension adjustments on my 4-32 NX8 with dual scaled reticle & location of the power throw lever for follow up shots that is fast & accurate on the rare occasion I need to.

In conjunction with my rangefinder, I primarily dial for distance & hold for wind, & make corrections either by dialing or holding for correction without changing power setting.

Utilize what works for each individual, the required use & become familiar with the scopes features, & operations.

Groundhog hunter here. I dial elevation and hold-off for wind.
I use & feel that I must have SFP at high power.
And with this, I prefer a med-fine crosshair reticle (no clutter).

Bought a S&B in ffp 20 years ago. A half dozen scopes later in both ffp & sfp, ffp is still my preferred glass for hunting...

After passing on several moose that might have been legal width, I switched to ffp on all my hunting rifles. I can hit them with the range finder and then do the math backward to get the minimum mils/moa for a legal width and then see if they make it.

Reticles are small on low power, but if it's illuminated that doesn't matter
