Seeking advice long range hunting equip 7mm/optics/ammo

I am new to this page and new to long range shooting. I have been trying to learn as I go but wanted to get some direction from you guys with more knowledge. I plan on purchasing a rifle and optics in the next month or so. here's what i was planning on getting.
SavageArms model 116 7mm Rem mag , (24 inch barrel, 9.5 rate of twist(good or bad?)
vortex optics viper pst first focal plane 4-16x50
factory ammo for now(eventually want to learn to reload)

I plan on hunting close-long range(more often close) on mainly whitetail but id like to have a bullet capable of hunting elk, mule deer etc basically looking for a setup to hunt it all,or as much as possible.

I have been reading about ballistic coefficient and was curious as to what factory ammo you would recommend to do the job im looking for , I dont want to overkill on whitetail but like the better long range flight and knock down of a higher bc bullet so any input would be appreciated

You are on the right sight.i us a 300 winhester mag for my pa deer hunting for now but am looking at the 7 mm/300 win wildcat for a long range deer stopper.and add a 300 winchester mag barrel to the set up also..

For those applications the Nosler Accubond, and Hornady Interbonds along with the Swift Sirocco are ideal choices.

any particular bullet grain recomendations? i have came across those listed a few times i will check them out, any one over the other? thanks for your input

I am new to this long range shooting and hunting as well. I am shooting a savage 116 weather worrer in 7mm RM, it has a Zeiss conquest hd5 3-15 on it and i am shooting Federal vital shok 160 gn accubonds in it and getting consistent 1.325" groups with it at 250 yds. This gun is not the kit gun with a scope but the one with the accu stock I then had it bedded. My buddy has the kit gun without the accu stock and it doesn't shoot as well as mine and the stock has started to deform around the action.

The heaviest your particular gun will shoot accurately in all three.

The 160gr accubonds shoot really well for me in my 7mm STW.

I've also had really god luck with the 150gr Sirocco II's.

The 154 Interbond has shot very well for me in three 7mm Remingtons and three 7mm STW's and is the bullet I have taken the most game with over the years.

At beyond 300yds the Hornady 162 SST is a great choice but at higher velocity/closer range they can be really explosive. They'll kill what you shoot but waste a lot of meat.

Good deal, yes the accustock is the one I am considering. Do you like it so far? The deforming sounds crazy I wonder what savage should do about that.

The heaviest your particular gun will shoot accurately in all three.

I'm glad you mentioned the sst I was curious about that , most of my shots are inside 300 but I'd like to be able to shoot longer if need be. Thanks again for the info

Wanted to bring this back up. Have been busy lately but now it's back on my mind. Do you think I should go with the xbolt lrh with the fluted 26" barrel. I just want to get the best out of the box accuracy I can get . Also any scope recommendations other than what I have listed I really want a variable power for low light close range hunts which I do but want to be able to shoot long range as well. Any advice is appreciated I just don't want to regret a purchase. Just curious if there are better options for the money .

Really hard to beat the Sendero or Rm Long Range models for out of the box accuracy.

Bed the recoil lug area.

Do a trigger job.

Make sure it's free floated back to your recoil area.

Find a load it likes and you are done.

I think im leaning toward the sendero. I have been wanting a stainless barrel and its a little lighter i see. thanks for the input.
