Scalpers are out of control

This thread has gone off the rails in so many ways. Sometimes we make this too hard...understand that this happens every few years at some predictable times and some unpredictable times, so....

Buy when you don't need it so you have it when you need it.
Understand that as long as OEM's sell at MSRP during a shortage, wholesalers or other middlemen are going to sell at market prices and profit on markup and the only way to avoid that is regulation.
Keep shooting while the rest of the world freaks out.

Stop making it harder than it is...

Or maybe it's the people paying these prices that make them so bold. Been watching powder on Gunbroker to see what the scalpers are selling for. Just saw 3-1lb bottles of H1000 sell for $515 plus shipping!
cant believe what this guy is asking for an 8lber, plus $50 shipping, PLUS 3.5% PayPal/credit card fee.

The hoarders are out of control again. Ok rant now over lol.View attachment 220001View attachment 220002View attachment 220003View attachment 220006
This is one of the reasons I develop 2-3 loads based on different powders and bullets as these 2 components seem to be out a lot. For example for stuff I use H1000 in I use IMR7977 and N565 as well as they are all three fairly close in burn rate and can usually produce decent similar loads. Also, another trick to fight this is to buy in 8lb sizes. A single 8lb'er for one rifle will just about use up the barrel before you run out of powder.

What would fix this terrible shortage is strict regulation regarding distribution of ammunition, components, and other items needed for happy living. The all knowing and wise federal government needs to step in and fix the shortage problem.

What might happen is that congress, starting with the U.S. House, run by Nancy is to pass a resolution to establish the BUAD, (Bureau of Ammunition Distribution) under the U.S. Department of Commerce. Absolute and total controls would be placed on the manufacturing and distribution of ammunition and components. Production and distribution limits for each month by location would be established. Ammunition and component consumers/customers would be issued ration cards. Ammunition and various components would be identified by imprinted coded data and smokeless powder would contain coded taggent information. This coded identification information would be linked to the buyer upon transfer. The production and possession of black powder would be banned. The BUAD would maintain the data in a data base shared by the DOJ but the DOJ would only have read access.

The results of this regulation would ensure that everyone could buy .22LR, primers, & H1000 for their needs. Prices would more than double but most people could afford to pay $100 for 500 .22LR and $100 per pound of H1000 is reasonable. Happiness and bliss would spread everywhere.

If you go for stuff like the above it would identify you as a liberal socialist, anti 2nd Amendment, and a hater of common sense.

Let's back up the turnip truck here. This is not price gouging by the seller. It is foolish spending by the buyers. The OP has run out a red herring. The seller set an asking bid below the normal retail price. Buyers chose to drive up the price to outrageous heights. That's all on them. Was the seller supposed to stop the bidding once it reached a "reasonable" limit and complete the sale? Auctions do not work that way. This is not a retailer setting a gouging sale price. And no, I am not involved in any of these transactions.
You need to look at some of the starting bids on other auctions, they are clearly gouging with their starting bid There was one example provided by the OP where the starting bid was .01 and then the price run up by potential buyers.

Whew, glad I kept reading... I was getting pretty fired up for the first sentence or two there

It doesn't matter the product, except for perishable goods, if you do not have several years supply.....you are not thinking about the future of your loved ones. Our several years supply would not last very long, with only consumers and no producers! Hopefully when "it" happens, our family can be an asset not a detriment.....though I predict the latter! If the latter, it will guarantee very difficult times ahead, for all of us! We have all become accustomed to the luxury of excess supply. Most of us have never truly "wanted" for anything. Many of those experiencing the Depression, would never allow themselves to be completely helpless in times of hardship. Jus say'n! memtb
My Dad somewhat still lives like it's the great depression. I joke about it but honestly, him & my mom could eat for a long time on what they have. He's not a prepper at all. He's just really thrifty & looks for deals.. When he finds a deal, he stocks up

Easy answer. When socialism benefits others, there is opposition. When it benefits you, there is support. That's the theme here. a seller should subsidize (reduce cost) the value of the components so others can benefit.

They can set the price wherever they want. No one has to buy it. They could put it at $200/lb but that doesn't mean buyers will be willing to pay it. No different than merchandise at stores that is priced too high...if it is too high it will not sell.

Let no crisis go to waste - Saul Alinsky, Rahm Emanuel - pre condition to communication

How many regard this as a crisis because they are unable to go to Walmart and buy .30-06 for the annual family deer hunt or .22LR for spring gopher shooting and would be willing to concede just a little because they only needed to buy 4 boxes of .30-06 (20 ea.) and 500 .22LR for the entire year's shooting. "Everybody knows AR-15 (assault rifle?) is not needed for deer hunting." "Our new senator Bullwinkle can get us the ammo we need when we want it."

Well..went in to local Sportsmans today to checkout powder..there were a few on the shelf..store regulated to 1 per customer a day....but what really surprised me was on the other aisle...
A 30 foot long aisle...maybe 200 boxes of loaded ammo on the shelf...
Biggest noticed gone...all the 65cd ammo..and no 3006 ammo....about a 15' area with nothing.....
WOW.........

LOL at all the first time gun owners who can't even get projectiles to learn how to use their new toys. I have a family member who is one of them. I told him a dozen times to buy a bulk package of 9MM because you could see this one coming a mile off. He did not. Now he can either get gouged on steel case garbage for like $1/round or have himself a semiautomatic paper weight.

Unfortunately times like this could discourage a newbie from the shooting sports and we need all we can get
