Savage rifle advice needed

I found a Savage 110 BA rifle in 7mm RM, 24" barrel, in a pawn shop
for $279. Nice Monte Carlo wood stock.

I don't speak Savage. Is this the largest Savage action, except for the
same deal in .590 Lapua boltface ?

I presume I could call Savage with the S/N to find out the age.

Thanks for your advice, I suspect this is a good deal.

There are two diameter threads for Savage, small and large shank. That rifle should be the small shank. The short mags and the Lapua got the large shank. That may be different now, but would only matter when and if you rebarrel. You can measure the barrel in front of the barrel nut to get the diameter.

This is straight from Savage shooters website. Seems like the quickest and easiest way to tell.

That's a heck of a price, worth buying for the action alone. And the stock is worth something to someone. Top or bottom bolt release? Devil is in the details, need to check screw spacing to confirm what is compatible with it.

Thank you Gents.
Part of me is trying to avoid starting another project, BUT...

What I am now thinking is whether I can rebarrel to a long magnum cartridge
like 300 Wby or even 6.5-300Wby. Is the action long enough ?
Same boltface, same shank size.

Thank you Gents.

It doesn't sound like a BA. Just a regular 110 in 7mm. Still at $275, it's a good price for a donor.

Savage isn't well suited for the long RUM or 300weatherby based rounds unless you are ok with a single shot. They can be done in repeater, but it's problematic.

If you need a repeater, I'd suggest the Nosler line of mags. 26, 28, or 30 Nosler would be excellent. About as big as the Savage will handle as a repeater.

Ditch the barrel, stock. You'll also want to upgrade the recoil lug and bolt handle.

You'll also want to find out if it is a center feed or stagger feed action.

Thank you Gents.

Yes, unless you want to use long VLD bullets? I had the smith lengthen my first "then wildcat (1994)7STW" 1/4" and then I lengthened the mag box the same. I get a max COAL of 3.700 comfortably.

PS: If you don't want it, I'l take it off your hands......

Hello Geargrinder,

I have seen your posts and appreciate your advice.

At the moment, I'm about 97.2% sure the barrel said 110BA.

I'm going to go back and look at it again.

OK, I was 97.2% wrong on the BA designation, it just says 110.

No hinged floorplate, the follower looks like a stagger-feed.

Serial number starts with F.

I'm talking myself down out of this project. Jasonco, I can put you
in contact with this pawn shop if you are interested, they are
in Washington just outside Seattle.

It also has a small Tasco scope.

Thank you Gents.

I'm not a Savage shooter, but I will say this... If I saw a Rem 700 in a pawn shop for $250-300...It won't still be sitting there when I leave, regardless of whether I needed another project or not. :D

$250-350 donor rifle is a hell of cheap way to start an awesome budget build.

I'd look into the .300 Ackley instead of the .300 Wby... I built my .300 Ackley back in 2014, it's a hell of a cartridge. They both use .300 Wby brass, but the Ackley has less taper and a 40º rectangular shoulder, instead of the radius Weatherby shoulder. It holds more powder, and the case shape/design has many more advantages, like less case growth, which means virtually no trimming. If you're interested, let me know, and I can tell you more about it.
