Dean, I just purchased ( this June) a Savage 12 vlp, dbm in .308win. It took me a while, and not a few dollars, to build it into what I was trying to achieve. A good 20 moa base and quality rings hold a Minox 6-30 SF x 56mm on top of this rifle now and I am pleased with the potential it exhibits. It does seem to take a while to "break in" a stainless barrel, lotsa cleaning in between too few rounds fired, but after a couple hundred it's narrowing the groups of some Lake City 1973 vintage NATO match ammo into very respectable sizes at 600 yds.
