Anyone know if savage built these rifles on a long or short action? Interested in one but would probably get a different stock and bottom metal (looks plastic online) but don't know what the screw spacing is and I'm hesitant to order one not knowing. Can't find any near where I live to go physically look at one. So anyone with some insight please let me know.

From what I'm hearing they are using a long action, a call to savage will give you the straight scoop.

I tried giving them a call but they're not answering or taking calls at this time due to the whole virus ordeal. I sent an email but haven't heard back yet.

Thanks highdrum, I got an email back from savage with an response saying email E. Sullivan who handles special orders. But I haven't heard from her yet. So I'd assume if it's a short action, it'd have the 4.4 hole spacing.

Not that this is in any way proof but, if you go to Savages site and look at all the Ultralites with the Proof carbon barrels, and look at the overall length and barrel length, the OAL is 42.5 for all the guns with 22" barrels and 44.5 for the ones with 24" barrels. Regardless of cartridge. 270 versus 6.5CM or 6.5PRC. The barrel length determines the overall length. So I would deduce that they are using long actions for everything, or the data on their website is just plain wrong......

Sadly, on a different note, the 270 Win is still listed as having a 1:10 twist. Why oh why.........

Oh the rain:rolleyes:, can't seem to catch a break to shoot this new rifle and it's killing me! I've managed 4 shots. 2 getting it on paper and 2 shots at 100 working on getting zeroed. The bright side is that they were within 1/2" and I was rushing... So I'm sure it's gonna shoot well if I can ever get the rain to stop and I can quit rushing.

Shot a box of ELDx 143.... max velocity was 3060, low was 2947, average was 3015. Best group was .25" (3 shot) . That group was 3 shots of velocity 2997,2999,3003. Might be a node there I can work around in my load development.

I found the 147 to have far better es than the 143s in my rifles as well. I think an es of 80 is what I saw with poor accuracy, but 147 performed much better.

The 147 shoot way better. Max 3005, low 2875, average 2945. Over 9 shots but grouping was better.

My barrel seems to be running on the fast side and I can't wait on my dies to get here. Gonna try and get at least 50-60 rounds through before I load anything.

Took her out to 500 this morning. I think I'm loving this gun a lil to much. Let a 12 year old shot it a few times as well. We were shooting skeet clays hanging on a plywood backstop. Absolutely awesome shooting.

Have a buddy looking at one of these, we were curious what the magazine length was for COAl. Any chance you could get that on your PRC?
