Savage 110 300WM Bullet Choice?

That's one of the limitations you have to deal with. I have 3 .300 WMs and all of them have different COALs, my SAKO M995s is 3.66" and the other 2 are 3.53s one of which is a Savage 111F. You can still have a decent load with 3.5" COAL. Berger 1st ed reloading manual is loading them at 3.34" for the .300 WM.

Good to know. I will see if I can get it loaded shorter to try the round out!

The 205 Berger Elite Hunter as 2nd choice? I have seen his accounts, and am not doubting him, but am frankly concerned with shots under 150 yards (quite often for me) and the expansion of the bullet.
If your shots are under 500 yards and the majority much closer than that there is no big benefit to using a VLD type long range bullet. Stick with an Accubond, Barnes, or any other well proven stnd bonded hunting bullet.

Hello all,

I have a Savage 110 chambered in 300 WM that I want to load for. I use this rifle for bear, elk, and mule deer. I want a bullet suitable for hunting ranges out to 600 yards and some further target practice. The rifle is a 24" barrel (IIRC) and a 1'10" twist.

I don't currently have reloading equipment, but am planning to order loaded ammo from a reputable reloading compant.

I am going to order a box of 50 bullets, with 5 different bullet choices and 10 rounds per bullet.

I will list the following bullet choices available - which 5 would you recommend to order? "Best" bullet? "Worst" bullet?

Berger:
215g Berger Hybrid
210g Berger VLD
205g, 180g Berger Elite Hunter
190g Berger VLD Hunter
175g, 230g Berger OTM Tactical
245g Berger EOL Elite Hunter

Hornady:
212g, 200g, 178g, 220g Hornady ELD-X
208g, 178g Hornady ELD-M
230g Hornady A-Tip Match

Nosler:
190g, 210g Nosler Accubond LR
180g, 200g Nosler Accubond
180g, 200g Nosler Partition
210g Nosler RDF
180g Nosler E-Til

Barnes:
180g Barnes TTSX
190g, 200g Barnes LRX

I also have a choice of brass: Hornady, Norma, ADG (this may be less available) or Peterson.

Which brass would you reccomend?

Thank you all in advance.
Barnes X , done deal. All will harvest these animals listed, but My trophy room is full, because of Barnes X.

I'm in the same situation also but my max range is 400 yds and only small (200 lbs or less) whitetail. Got what I could find ordered. Gun and brass. No ammo available online but I haven't looked locally. I went with the Peterson Long 300 brass. I've used it for a Creedmoor and it works good. Still haven't decided on a bullet yet but a friend uses the Barnes 150 TTSX in his 300 Weatherby and it works good close and far.

My bullet/load for 1K is the same as under 500Y, but that's just me. :)

208 and 212 Hornady are both good choices...have shot Elk at 480 yrds and 565....both DRT.....Black bears from 60-350 yards and punched 15/16 holes in 1" steel plates at 300.....I load these for myself, 3 sons and four friends....it's all we use for paper and meat!

What's your recipe for 300 WM ?

The best combination out of my 300wm 110 Long Range Hunter is Berger 215 Hybrids, H1000, GM215M, Norma Brass
I tried Accubonds, ELD X, VLD Hunters, TLR Edge

Do you have to single load or can you put in magazine (if it has one)?

Barnes 180 ttsx or 180 accubond. Both will shoot fantastic and shoot well off the lands. I ended up grabbing factory Barnes for my elk hunt this year and they shot 3.5" at 600 yds pretty consistent. Took a bull at 275, dropped in his tracks. Best wishes and don't over think it! You won't regret either of these choices. As far as buying a bunch of components to try... I doubt you will have any trouble getting either bullet to shoot 1/2 moa.

This is a Mosin Nagant I converted to 300WinMag with a Krieger barrel.
I was using a 125 gr Nos Bal Tip

300WinMag 125 gr Nos Bal Tip Moly, 66 gr IMR 4166, 3.34" over all length [OAL]
Quickload predicts 3174 fps 47 kpsi
1.2" 5 shot group at 100 yards.
