Satellite phone

I have used this company in the past a couple of times.

Borrowed one from our guide to call the wife when we got snowed in for several days in the mountains of Cascade Montana. Only had a cell signal at the very top of the mountain and we weren't getting there. As stated above the number sequence was different.

+1 on the InReach. I've rented sat phones a couple of times and found that, unless having verbal conversations is important, the InReach accomplishes everything I need when I have no cell service and is much more cost effective than sat phones.

I have used both and prefer the Inreach because of the SOS function, weather, etc. I run a Garmin 66i. Texting works great (every time). I just snap it on the pack and use the app on Iphone and its great. GPS native interface/keyboards usually suck so the app is handy. Being able to turn the service on/off when I want is great as well.

I own and use Iridium phones at work and the dialing sequences are clunky at best so memorize them and load up some speed dials!
