I'm currently running 75.3g H1000 + 212g ELD-X in my 300wm and crushing the powder. The rifle is a Sendero . This weekend will try IMR 4831 starting at 68.2, 68.7, 69.2, 70.2, 70.7g with the 212g. I like to long long, just so it fits in the box and still jumping to the lands. If I find a load that I like, will switch to the Hammers. Am I in the right range for IMR 4831?

If it's just a little crunchy it's not a huge issue. Somebody will say its dangerous to shoot a compressed load of any kind. I have and know lots of people that shoot compressed loads without issue. If it's accurate and safe pressure your good. Can always go with a longer mag box too and adjust seating depth.

You're making a mistake at .5 gr increments. You could easily miss your node. Do .2 gr increments.

If loading Hammers start at 64gr and load one grain increments up to pressure. Back off one grain and load ten, five for chrono amd five for group. It’s that easy. I would want a little slower powder, but times are tuff.

Ensure your twist rate is what is recommended by them or a little faster.

Note the lengths below from this Hodgdon data.
I have found Hammers aren’t super sensitive to jump. I would load about .050” and see what happens. I load to 3.335” in my Ruger 300 wm and have not fooled with seating depth with 181 and 152 Hammers Hunters.

keep us posted.
