Ruger 77 Mk-II, 7mmmag, 168g VLD, what powder?

I'm going to work up a 168g VLD load for a 7mmMag Ruger 77 Mk-II with a 24" barrel. I've looked at the situation with QuickLoad, there isn't a Berger load manual though I suspect they are working on one.

Of the powders I can probably get my hands on, VV N570 (hard to find around here) is rated best, followed in order by RL25, N560, Retumbo, IMR7828 (I have this on the shelf), IMR7828SSC, and H1000.

Which, if any, of these powders work for you in a 7mmMag?

I'd try H1000 or R22 if you can get that.


I use 73gr H1000 with 168 berger and get 3087 fps from a 26" barrel.
