guys,
i try really try hard not to waste anyones time but i can't seem to get good feedback from anywhere i look
question: ruger #1 fully accurzed and worked by CPS rifles. shoots factory great
i want to use 140 gr vlds. what powder for these?
also if its not too much trouble : same powder for 150 LRABs? thanks

I'm using Norma MRP, in my 270 with the 140 Bergers, H4831 works very well with the 140 Hornady BTSP w/ H-4831

TH, try the 150 gr Bergers, I thought the 140's were good but the 150's really get it. My son's was best with H4831SC but you should try other powders also in your #1 to find the most accurate. Good luck

And it is still working, that's good to know!

Yes, I was concerned that the gasket material would flow over time but I don't believe I have it under enough pressure to create a condition for flow.

Had the gun out a couple weeks back and went 10 for 10 on an 8" gong at 400 yards with my 115 grain Ballistic Tips and a fixed 6X scope on the gun! I'm still grinning. :D

I will never sell or trade this gun.

I have heard the ruger #1 can be difficult. I have shot 6 powders from my 270 win accumark including both 4831's, H4350, RL19 and H100 along with my favorite VV N560.

The h4831sc load was excellent but as soon as I went beyond 56gr accuracy and extreme spread deteriorated. Tried 560 and found a real good spot at 60gr running 3100 with 130's and 58gr at 3000 with 140's both VLD's and have an ES in the single digits. Accuracy 1/2 MOA or better out to 300 which is as far as I have shot it. I have some of the 150 LRAB's. Going to try with 560, H4831sc and H1000.

I was encouraged to start with H4831 and H4350 to find out which burn rate the firearm likes turns out slower. For length I've been running everything at 3.350.

The 130 VLD is vicious on whitetails have not shot one with the 140 as yet.

Good luck and shoot straight

Bob
