The 7-08 is interesting but I was looking for something a little more efficient. The 08 takes 48gr of water. I have a good 7x57 in a modern action I load right close to 08 performance. If I could get into a case closer to 36 to 40 grains with a sharper shoulder and small primer I'd be happier. I have an abundance of 6 and 6.5 rifles and a pile of 7mm bullets. I'd like something I'd spend hours behind. I dont think the 08 would be super fun shooting all day.

FWIW My sons didn’t have a problem with a 7mm08 and a 120NBT over H4895. You can safely go down 40% from the max listed load. Hodgdon reloading center lists a max of 43.7 grains, so you could easily drop to 35-36 grains and shoot all day. Just a thought.

If you want a 36 grain capacity case to spend hours behind why in the world are you looking at 7mm??
Go 6mm

7-08 should be the ticket. 308 and 7.62 brass is everywhere, well it usually is, dies are off the shelf too.

Edit:
7 TCU could be fun too and it looks like you want a smaller 7mm cartridge.

I feel dirty for saying it, BUT.... 7mm creedmoor? Less than 7-08 and lots of brass availability
edit: ever consider a 7mm IHMSA?
