Does anyone know anything on the 783 .I have a chance on one in 22-250.Less than a box of ammo has been shot in it.It has a bushnell 3 x 9 on it for 180.00

Id be happy to talk with you about them-- I just shot my 6.5cm R783 today... sub 1/2" 3 shot groups at 100 with 140gr ELDM @ 2850. Factory rifle + handloaded ammo.

You can buy replacement pre-fit barrels and turn it into any short action cartridge you want, Boyd's makes the 'At-One' stock and there is a chassis too that takes AICS mags.

$180- sell the scope for $50- leaves you at $130+300 barrel+200 stock-- you now have a $630 custom rifle that will be badass!

Grizz, a friend just won one from a Ducks Unlimited raffle. A very nice barrel according to the borescope. His came with the walnut stock which is nicely figured. It is in .308 and waiting for a scope. We have six test loads for it, hope the scope comes in soon.

I'd buy it for 180. Here a picture of mine with the Boyd's at one stock. Bought it in 308, slapped a x caliber 6 dasher barrel on it, Boyd's stock. Fun cheap gun to shoot.

A few years ago, iirc, a guy by the handle engineer40 had a great thread about customizing a 783. Great read.

If I buy it I will keep it a 22-250 for my grandson to start with.I was just trying to find out how good a stock 783 is

depends, mine was cr@p--- the barrel was horribly rough and never really smoothed out, it would copper foul after 40 shots or less--couldn't get it to shoot consistently better than 1.25moa (occasionally, yes but not consistently)--the forearm of the stock was soft and easily moved, the forearm also was warped and put pressure on 1 side of the barrel-- I free floated it, even stiffened the forearm and bedded the action--didnt change the accuracy. Tried 6 different types of factory ammo, 7 different bullets, 4 different powders, 3 sets of dies, 3 types of primers, 2 types of bases and rings, 3 different scopes, finally gave up on it after 986 rounds and sold it off--sure I sold it for what I bought it for but lost a ton of $ and time (and hair) on it --mine was a 7rm-- bought an xbolt stalker in same cartridge and within 1 month had it shooting .6 moa consistently so i know it wasn't the shooter

guess I got one made on friday at 5p

cheap guns can be accurate too, bought a TC compass for my daughter and the thing shoots 3/4 moa easily

I have heard good things about customizing the 783, the receiver is supposed to be stronger/more rigid than the 700-- there is some aftermarket support for the 783 but not near what the 700 or 70 has at this time

Finally got around to shooting it I got a box of Hornady 55 gr V-MAX After shooting a few to get where I wanted it on paper I went for a group AT 100 yards I got a jagged hole with 5 shots .Went to 200 and got 3/4 inch group .Never had a small caliber before .Is normal for a 22-250 .I am used to much bigger guns and hardly new when it went off
