I have a remington 700 sps in 30/06. Does anyone here shoot the 30/06 for long range shooting? I am looking to shoot 200-500 yds. I have a nightforce 3.5x15x50 mounted on it. Any suggestions for ammo on this gun? I normally shoot Hornady 165 grain ballistic tip. I use it for deer hunting.

Do you reload? I like a 150 grain Nosler BT in my 700 30-06 and shoot Win 760 as a powder. It shoots five shot groups that you can cover with a dime out of my stock gun at 100 yards, and I have harvested deer with it to just past 400 yards. The BT's put them down hard, just wish the B.C. was better...

I also have the same setup. I was wondering of which factory ammo you all would recommend for 600 to 800 ydsgun)for AOUDAD

For 200-500 yds a 30-06 is fine.
I have a Rem 700 SPS in 30-06 and use it as my primary deer rifle. I shoot it at all ranges out to 1000 yards. I shoot Nosler 168gr Ballistic Tips as my main bullet for 500 yds and in and 175gr BTHP bullets for farther shots.

I have a Vortex Diamondback 3-9x40 and use the BDC dots with the Ballistic Tips and dial turrets for the long range bullet.

Try the same ammo in the 180gr interbond or interlock and see how it shoots for you.

If you can shoot 1 MOA at 100yds with the rifle and a given load you can be more than capable at the ranges you are talking about with a little practice.

Before going any further though I'd say go a good pillar and action bedding and free float the barrel.

Till you do that you won't know how capable the rifle really is.

Tunic- it does not say where you are. you do not say how it shoots at 100 yards. that is a great scope. The 30-06 is an excellent long range cartridge. If you go to riflemansjournal ; German' has shot the 30-06 at long range extensively. i shoot 50.5 grains of varget and a 168 berger in my remington 700s . there are other good bullets and loads. If the barrel is as good the scope, you are great shape. roninflag
