Hi I have rem 700 stainless in 7mm 08 and may have to re barrel it how makes a good grade barrel but not to expensive like to keep the 7mm 08 and the sporter barrel I only have $150 in the gun so may go for a good stock to thanks .troy

Find a used barrel on the forum with a low round count. Barrels and inexpensive dont mix. Some barrel manufacuterers to consider include Broughton, Benchmark, Lija, Hart, and Krieger. You are looking at anywhere from $300-$500 on what you want out of the barrel. Also, you will need a gun smith to chamber and thread it for you. That will be another $300-$500 depending on smith. Good luck on your search. Check the classifieds regularly for barrel deals.

$300-500 to fit and chamber a barrel!?!? ****! Yall are gettin worked over good... For that price you should be getting the action trued, bedded, and the barrel floated, too.

Thanks for the replys I don't mind spending the money got the gun for 150 with a nikon on it checked it with vo no goes and there is excessive headspacing I like the sporter barrel for hunting like to replace with another one but for a little more I can maybe get a target or varmint barrel

Mud...we've covered this before in another section. I don't have a trust worthy smith like you. It's the going rate from any of the major barrel markers. The cheapest to include a barrel is 500 and the most expensive I've been quoted is 850. Those do include action truing which makes sense if you're getting a new barrel.

Puggy,

You say you have excessive headspace? Hard to read your typos: "checked it with vo no goes and there is excessive headspacing"

You used a no go gauge? If this is a factory barrel with original chambering I would say it be rare to have gotten past the quality control folks.

How much headspace? Add pieces of scotch tape to rear of a GO GAUGE to find out. Excessive headspace can be altered by a gunsmith for far less than installing a new barrel.

I don't believe that the heavily populated upstate NY with cities like: Buffalo, Rochester Niagara Falls, or Syracuse don't have any gunsmiths.

Thanks for the response ya I used gauges for some reason the barrel was cut one inch and rechambered I did not had a chance to check how much. I am thinking of getting a short chamber with treads and do it my self look around and smith's close are $700 and up
