I took in a Remington 700 in 7mm rum, with an ugly Boyd's rainbow colored stock I've since painted. But I want to know if there's a value for this rifle. I've looked at other chassis's & stocks. All very expensive, and hard to find one that'll work for the RUM. What's the value for something like this if I sold it? Dollar amount. Or is it worth me putting money into a stock/chassis. I don't know much about the bolt action world. So I thought I'd ask you guys. I live in Michigan too, where this caliber isn't practical.

Seeing you own it did it come with any brass or dies? There is brass available:

Not much use for it in Michigan but out West it makes a great long range rifle. The twist may not stabilize 180 gr VLD high BC type bullets at the low elevations where you live. 168 high BC or more conventional 175 gr bullet like a partition will work.

If you decided to keep it there are many McMillan stocks that would improve it.

Should the barrel become worn out you can make another 7 RUM, 300 RUM or 338 RUM. IF you are on a budget there are RUM takeoff barrels out there. I could also be made to shoot any number of other magnum cartridges.

A friend put his up for sale on a site in Az and has had no offers or any interest for weeks on his SS Sendero 7 RUM.

The 7 Rum has always been a bastard child. I personally always loved it because it was a racecar in the speed kills days before all the high BC days took over. I haven't pulled mine out in a long time bc in this economy, its hungry and eats into your reloading supplies quickly and factory ammo is nonexistent. Buyer would be buying an action for another project likely. 600ish I'd say.

If round count is unknown and you dont have a borescope--- with the painted Boyd's stock --- a buyer would basically be buying a rem700 ss action/bolt/trigger.
My thoughts too...donor action. Extremely tough to find any components for this one today so I'm thinking hard sale!

I have a friend trying to sell his 7RUM it's a Remington 700bdl with engraving took it to the gun show this weekend where they offer 800 for it and the guy had one on the table asking 2300 for it and actually sold it gun show had nice guns but were way over priced to my liking

Just for a comparison a few weeks ago I bought a 700 bdl in 300 win mag with a 3x9 Leupold in a ramline stock in great shape ( 90%) at a local gun shop for $600.00 for another build. Hope that helps.
