Rem 700 action question

Can a Rem 700 action from my 30/06 bolt face be opened up to handle .338 lupa? I am wanting to build one and have a worn out 30/06 barrel and action is still great shape.

I am by no means a gunsmith but from every thing ive read on hear most gunsmiths either wont or stongly discurage people from useing the 700 action for a lapua class cartirdge. hope that helps im shure one them will speak up.

thanks will check it out. Rem is one strong action as far as I am concerned , better than most with open boltface of a mauser type.

Yea after re reading it i see that most of the problems come from people getting stupid with lapua brass! sorry about the mix up though.

I saw where he speciffically stated SS actions too. My thoughts that Chrome molly better in actions , at least in my experence.

It's fine as long as the smith knows what they are doing.
