Hi all.
Question.

Who used the standard Rem.700 .308Win. (twist 1:12) for shooting at a distance over 1000 yd., is this real?

Thanks for the answer.

208 Amax, (NOT moly coated)
48.0 gr RL-17
CCI 200 primer
milsurp brass
3.10" OAL (kisses lands in my factory Rem varmint barrel)
2580 fps in 20.5" barrel, per Magnetospeed chrono

As always, start low and work up. Every rifle is different.

I was recently fireforming some new ADG brass in my 26" Rem 700 VS. For fun, I decided to load some 208 AMAX I had sitting around. I seated them .020 off the rifling (3.055) over 40.0 grains of IMR 4320. I normally weigh my charges. This time, I threw them from my Redding powder measure. This is a pretty sedate load, with a muzzle velocity around 2400.

It doesn't seem like the 208's need to be pushed hard to perform. I was amazed at how consistent and predictable they were. Waterlined a target @ 700 meters in strong winds. Zeroed at 500 meters. Between 200 and 700 meters, correction was one mil/100 meters, up or down, from 500. I could pretty much pick a spot and hit it.

There is room to work up to 2500 fps or so, if desired. I was shooting at an elevation around 3300 ft asl. Temps were in the low 90's with 30+ mph winds quartering from 5 o'clock.

40.0 IMR 4320
Fed 210
ADG brass (56.1 fired capacity, identical to LC and Winchester in my rifle)
3.055 OAL
Not chronoed, estimated 2400ish mv from a 26" barrel

The 208 does hold onto velocity pretty well.

This is an old target. When I first started testing the 208 Amax in my 1/12 308.

208 Amax, MV 2480 fps via RL15, range 1120 yards. The black square is 5x5 inches. Steel is 15 inches wide.

I've got a Remington varmint 26" barrel running 168 amax at 2840 fps. I'm at 8100' of elevation and have taken it out to 1020yrds.

hornady case
Winchester LR primer
44gr. varget
168 amax
COAL- 2.840

usually shoots right about 1/2 minute out to 800 yards.
