Recommend an AR15?

30 ARX looks pretty good too. Wonder what the uppers cost. I can't find much info on that.

I think with the 300 Blackout you will have no regrets. The Nosler load data shows the versatility you have with this round. I can't wait to get home to build my rifle. I am going to turn it into a 300 yard plinker and deer/hog/varmint rifle. For hogs I am thinking 220 grain HPBT within a 100 yards.

The 6.5 Grendel sounds awesome as well. I was thinking about getting one, once I finished up some other rifle projects.

That guy might be an "expert hog hunter" and killed millions of pigs from all reaches of the globe... But in the end, it's still just one man's opinion on the ole' interwebz.

All joking aside...He has a few legit gripes, but you see and hear a lot of people using .300 BLK for hog hunting and not having any issues. I have not had a chance to use mine on a hog...Yet. But if I were to go tomorrow with what I have available to me currently (and I also have a couple 5.56 rifles), I would go with either the 6.5G with the Berger 130 AR Hybrids, or .300 BLK with 168 Berger VLD's (a good mix of speed and energy).

This is just simply my $0.02, and I am by no means an expert.

California is looking to ban AR15s so I'm thinking about getting one before it's too late. I don't really need one--so it's hard to say what I'd use it for. Most likely it would be used for just making it as accurate as possible, target practice, reloading for it, that sort of thing. I don't want to spend a fortune on it since I probably won't use it much. But I would enjoy playing with it to increase the accuracy and its long range capabilities (while still retaining the spirit of the gun... Is a 26 inch barrel AR15 still an AR15? (not sure they make them that long but you get the point)). As with everything I like lightweight guns as I'm a lightweight person, but weight is not the primary concern on this gun... Mostly accuracy and price. And it has to be available with a "bullet button" and a 10 round magazine.

Depending on your budget, check out Noreen's offerings esp. the BN-36 ...

I agree about the .223. It will get the job done but not necessarily the best. I know that a 220 grain slug hitting a hogs vitals within a 100 yards out of a .300 blackout will do the job. He has a lot of experience and so do I. With that I will respectfully disagree that a .300 blackout "isn't a hog cartridge."

Get a blackout, you won't regret it! :D

Ok, I told myself I wouldn't go all weight weenie on this gun. Woops...

I might get multiple lowers, one on this lightweight gun which is polymer and another heavier one that is durable so that it will last a long time one AR15 is fully banned in CA.

This is for 6.5 Grendel

why did you pick those parts? Don't waste your money on a polymer lower!

Why not go to the guru of Grendel and buy an upper you know will perform
6.5 Grendel AR-15 Uppers by Alexander Arms

and for the stripped lower mega Mega, CMT, Noveske, Seekins even the rainier ultramatch. Just add a lower parts kit and a trigger

Trigger Geissele I would recommend the SSA-E but take your pick barrel and trigger are what make an AR accurate.

I would use an A2 stock on this gun

upper Vltor MUR

vltor has some nice rails. Lots of them out there. Personally I like PRS.

Thanks for the tips. The barrel looks awesome but a little heavy and expensive for my needs. I'm looking at the AR Stoner/Liberty (identical) barrels in 18" fluted stainless with headspaced bolt at about $350. Weighs a bit less and cheaper still has awesome reviews. I'll think about what stock. That trigger looks great but blows up my budget. Anyone have a trigger replacement that's good enough quality but cheaper? Also would you recommend matched billet upper and lower or can I do a mega billet lower GTR 3S (this one is made for forged uppers) and mega forged upper? I like the idea of keeping it standard spec so I can swap uppers if I need to. I will do a billet pair if it is critical to good accuracy.

that is the beauty of milspec. Dimensionally they are all the same. I have matched sets, forged, billet I mix and match all the time. A tight fit between the upper and lower is important but there are several ways to tighten it up if yours has a little slop.

Did you look at Alexander Arms website. Bill Alexander created the 6.5 Grendel. I am sure that there is an upper on the website that will meet your price point.

I have built a lot of AR's. I love it. That said there are lots of tricks to putting one together for accuracy. The professionals like Robert Whitley and Bill Alexander know the tricks and turn out a superior product.

Just to give you an idea read the link below. And this is the tricks he will tell you about. most of them the hobby builder can't do anyway.

http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com...curate-ar-robert-whitley-explains-what-works/

you can always upgrade your trigger later. Probably will appreciate more then anyway

I did look at the Alexander Arms. I would rather build my own for the fun factor and to get it exactly how I want.

yep

building them is a blast.

my bolt guns are much easier to get accuracy out of but for pure fun the AR-15 takes the cake

they will shoot accurately if you work at it.

this is a typical group with my 6mm turbo which is nothing more than a 6.5 Grendel necked down to 6mm 5 shots at 100 yrds

That's what I did. While the barrel was not my first choice, money was tight, so I had to get what I could afford. I went with the Bownells/Satern Mfg. 24" 5R 1:8 twist barrel with the Grendel II chamber. It's button-rifled, and the reviews I read online showed some impressive accuracy. Haven't shot it yet, but I am very pleased with the fit & finish.
