Recent 28 Nosler Proven Load Data

I have never been able to get confident with RL 33 I have had too many weird pressure issues. Switched to retumbo and the problems went away. I load from 76-79 grains with excellent accuracy.

I Also never really found the sweet spot with rl33 so I switched to 81gr retumbo 195 Berger with bertram brass and federal gold medal match 215m primers and now I love it

I have a Lane Precision 28n, 26'', 8 twist, shooting 195's @ 3075 with 80gr N570, unbelievably accurate. I am currently loading for 177gr Hammer Hunters with N570 starting load @ 80gr. Has anyone tried the 177's I'm having a hard time finding loads for that bullet, even Steve at Hammer Bullets hasn't had much input yet.

I also have a lane precision … N570 82 grains makes her scream .. great accuracy and very temp stable.. RL 33 gave me carbon rings and too much time cleaning.. If your hunting go 570, If your just plinking use the 33 because its available. There should be another run of 570 coming before too long .. I hope anyway.

I have loaded for 19 different 28 Noslers.
Nosler or ADG brass, most built by either Axisworks or Piercision Rifles
Started with CCI BR2, but have switched to Fed GM215M for the last 7 or 8 with fantastic results
83.0 to 89.0gr RL33
195 Berger EOL mostly (a couple w. 197 SMK or 184 F Open)
2.960 to 3.005" CBTO (.055 to .010" jump)
3065 to 3160fps
All under .4MOA, out to 1000+
has this worked in a rifle with 1:9 twist or just in those with 1:8?

I have a 1 in 8 proof on mine.. slowest I think I would go is 1 8.5, but that doesn't mean a 9 wouldn't work.. Work up to the 82 grains every gun is different and you might be at pressure at 79..

I have a few of Ryan's rifles - I've been shooting the .300 Norma Improved lately as that's what I'll hunt elk with this year but I did a little load development a few weeks ago with N-570 and the 195's and 177 hammer hunters in my 28 nosler. I used 82.7 gr at .02 off with the 195's and got 3027 fps in a 26" proof. 84.0 of N570 with the 177 hammer .05 off also shot a sub .5moa 5 shot group and was right at 3200 fps. I lucked into a case of N-570 earlier this year so I'm not going to mess with RL-33 although I might try retumbo if I can't get the 28 to shoot as well as the norma.

N570 is definitely a great powder to use if you can find it. Its literally about 10xs less temp sensitive than Reloader 33. I use it in my 28 nosler for a mild load of 3115 fps with a 195. No ejector mark etc and is 1/4 moa. I use it in my 300 norma improved with great results also. Mild load pushes a 230 berger at 3035 fps with a SD of 7 for 20 shots. Shoots sub 1/4 moa. With a 215 berger its 3200 fps with sub 1/4 moa accuracy. N570 seems to leave a bit more carbon further down the barrel. A borescope is pretty much an essential piece of equipment. Failure to get all the carbon out will result in higher ES and a decrease in accuracy. Im wanting to try some n570 in my 30-28 nosler soon but the h1000 load I have for it is mind blowing accurate with that proof carbon barrel. Shot a 3 shot 1.5" group at 950 yds and a 4 shot .945" group at 580 yds with it. 215 berger at 3055 fps.

I just did a 10 shot ladder just to look for pressure/velocity with Retumbo and N570 and hornady 180 ELD-Match and the 177 hammers.! I don't have the actual numbers on me but I'll post when I return in 2 weeks from ibex hunting in Kyrgyzstan!!!!!!!!!...if my brain remembers anything besides ibex...

But I did want to share this:
The hornady did not have pressure signs as quickly as the hammers. I remember that I only fired 3 of the 10 with hammers and retumbo, whereas I fired all 10 with retumbo and 180 HDY with pressure signs only showing up at the end.
For some reason I would have thought the hammers would produce less pressure...but that's why you test.

Here's a group that I tried with a middle powder weight of N570 and 180 HDY (this was a spot in the middle of my ladder where 4 shots grouped well and velocity didn't change much so I just loaded up a group to try.

I had pressure signs with both powders by the time I reached 3200 FPS and I didn't quite shoot all 10 rounds with Hammers and N570

Now onto changing seating depths...

How long of a barrel are you using to get 3100 FPS with 79 gr of N-570? I just tried two loads this morning with the 180 eldm and 180 Berger hybrid both using 84.0 N-570 out of a 26" proof and was right at 3060 in both loads with a super low sd with the Berger load.

Ryan what was your load in the 28 with N570 to get to 3115?

If I recall correctly it was 82.3 gr for the 195 at 3115 and was under an inch at 400 yards. It was a very mild load. No ejector mark etc. I had the 184 bergers at a little over 3300 before I saw any pressure signs. Its accuracy node however was 3250 and didn't beat my 195 load ballistically.
